US expands AI chip curbs, focuses on China links in Southeast Asia

♨️News –  The US is moving to block exports of advanced AI chips to Malaysia and Thailand, aiming to prevent those components from reaching China through third-party routes. The draft rule, still under review, marks the first formal step in the Trump administration’s effort to reshape the country’s chip export strategy.

• US officials suspect these countries are being used to bypass existing bans on chip exports to China.

• Malaysia and Thailand have not publicly responded, and Nvidia has declined to comment.

☕News –  Isomorphic Labs, a drug discovery company from Google DeepMind, is getting ready to begin human trials for its AI-designed drugs. The team says they are now close to testing their first medicines, which have been developed using advanced AI models to speed up and improve the drug design process.

• Isomorphic Labs was founded in 2021, inspired by DeepMind’s AlphaFold breakthrough.

• AlphaFold’s creators won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

• The company is focused on cancer and immunology treatments, among others.

• It has partnered with Novartis and Eli Lilly, and raised $600 million in April.

• Clinical trials will begin soon, marking a major milestone.
