BRICS countries unite to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence

🥳News - The BRICS group of emerging economies has agreed to create an artificial intelligence study group to promote responsible development and cooperation in the use of this technology.

The announcement was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

🤖What would AI study group focus on?

  • The study group will be tasked with creating principles and guidelines for how AI should be developed, used, and regulated. The goal is to ensure that AI is used for good and does not pose risks to people or society.

  • The group will also promote cooperation between the BRICS countries in AI research and development. This includes sharing information and resources, collaborating on research projects, and developing joint AI products and services.

Chinese President Xi made these announcements after US President Joe Biden signed an executive order on 9 August imposing restrictions on US investments in certain Chinese technology companies.

AI-generated deepfakes could 'sway voters' in 2024 election, UN advisor says

👿News - An AI advisor for the United Nations (UN) has warned that artificial intelligence generated deepfakes are likely to have a "massive" impact on voters in future elections, including the 2024 US presidential election.

In a recent interview, Neil Sahota stated that deepfakes could be used to create fake videos, audio recordings, or images of politicians or other public figures saying or doing things that they never did. As per him, the 2024 election could be marred by deepfakes.

🤒Can anything be done to address the issue? Sahota says that there are currently limited ways to prevent the spread of deepfakes. Common verification methods, such as watermarks, can be easily bypassed. Even if a deepfake is detected, it may be too late to prevent it from being seen by voters.

He revealed that the UN and other organizations are working to develop more effective methods for detecting deepfakes.

🧛‍♀️So what should voters do? In the meantime, according to the UN advisor, voters need to be aware of the risks of deepfakes and to be skeptical of any information that they see online. He also said that it is important to support organizations that are working to combat the spread of misinformation.

India is in the top 5 countries for AI talent, report finds

👩‍💻News - A LinkedIn report found that the number of profiles in India citing skills in artificial intelligence has grown 14-fold in the past seven years.

The report also found that 43% of Indian workers have seen an increase in AI adoption in their organizations over the last year.

This surge in AI adoption has led 60% of all workers and 71% of Generation Z professionals to believe that acquiring AI skills could improve their career prospects.

Two-thirds of Indians said they would learn at least one digital skill in 2023, with AI and machine learning among the top skills they want to learn.

🧑‍🎓What’s more? India, Singapore, Finland, Ireland, and Canada are among the countries with the fastest adoption of AI skills. The adoption of AI skills is not limited to the technology sector, but is also being seen in other industries, such as retail, education, and financial services.

In fact, Indian AI talent is in high demand and well-compensated. Many companies from all over the world are eager to hire Indian AI engineers, and these professionals can earn enough to retire in their late 30s.
