A president says he has no concerns at all. More than a dozen of the people building the thing disagree, in public, with numbers. Amazon started selling ads inside ChatGPT. And a US coding startup shipped its best model on Chinese weights.

WHAT HAPPENED
Trump was asked about AI and human extinction on Thursday as he left Dallas and said he had no concerns at all, adding that the US leads China by what he called a pretty good period, about a year. The question followed a week in which more than a dozen staff at OpenAI and Anthropic said the opposite in public. Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned and wrote that both companies are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. Anthropic alignment lead Evan Hubinger put extinction risk above 10% within the decade, one OpenAI safety researcher put it at 70% inside three years without regulation, and OpenAI preparedness staffer Julie Steele said in a personal capacity that we need to slow down. Sam Altman has told employees the company is considering slowing cutting edge development, and two bills are now in Congress, the bipartisan FRONTIER Act and the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act.
WHY IT MATTERS
The split here is not optimists against pessimists. It is between the people who set the policy and the people who can see the training runs, and this week both were asked the same question and gave opposite answers. That matters because the safety case for frontier AI has always rested on labs governing themselves, and self-governance only holds while the labs and the government agree on what the risk actually is. Once the employees are the ones raising the alarm and the White House is the one waving it off, the pressure stops running through Washington and starts running through hiring, retention and who is still willing to put their name on a model card. The scarce input at a frontier lab right now is not compute. It is researchers who still believe the plan.
OUR TAKE
Altman telling staff he is considering slowing down is the line that will age, not the president's answer. Slowing down is the one thing a lab cannot do on its own without handing the lead to whoever does not, so either that sentence was internal reassurance with no plan behind it, or OpenAI is getting ready to ask for the regulation that makes slowing down survivable.
Watch the FRONTIER Act. If OpenAI publicly backs a bill that binds its own release schedule before the end of the year, the slowdown was real. If it backs nothing, the remark was HR.
When you don't click through on a story, what's usually the reason?
The pilot went live on Thursday and puts Amazon DSP inventory into OpenAI's new ChatGPT Ads product, with a small group of US advertisers and Delta Vacations named as the first to test it. Amazon's omnichannel supply director Chris Conetta called conversational ads the fastest growing engagement opportunity for brands. It extends an eighteen month run of Amazon picking up inventory from Netflix, Roku, Spotify, Disney and ESPN, helped by fees close to zero on programmatic guaranteed deals where The Trade Desk takes 15 to 20 percent. eMarketer's Nate Elliott says the measurement and the formats are not ready for Q4 to mean much yet.

Hire Ava, the AI BDR built for enterprise
Ava is the first AI BDR to run outbound end to end, and you decide whether she runs autonomously or on copilot.
She finds leads or ingests accounts from your CRM, enriches them, sends personalized emails on behalf of your reps, follows up, handles replies and books meetings. Website visitor de-anonymization, intent signals, and a parallel dialer come built in.
A small team can manage her centrally for thousands of reps who never log in. Everything syncs two-way with Salesforce and HubSpot.
Ava runs outbound for companies like DoorDash and Grammarly, and one customer deploys her across 1,000+ reps. Ava is SOC 2 Type II audited, SSO and GDPR ready. Ava is how revenue teams grow pipeline without growing headcount.
Kimi K3 is Moonshot's 2.8 trillion parameter open weight model, and Cognition turned it into an agentic coding model that scores 50.0% on FrontierCode 1.1 Main, against Fable 5.1 at 50.9% and GPT-6 Astra at 53.3%, while costing 64% less than Fable. It leads both on Terminal-Bench 2.1 at 92.8%. The medium variant finishes FrontierCode tasks 58% faster than SWE-1.7 at 81% lower average cost. It is live now in Devin Desktop, CLI, Web and Fusion.
⚡️ YOUR MOVE
FOR PEOPLE BUILDING THE LIFE THEY WANT, NOW.
🎧 OpenAI put GPT-Live-1 in the API at five cents a minute. It listens while it speaks, and one tutoring partner says interruptions during thinking pauses dropped by almost 80%. → Build the voice agent
🪟 Gemini now has a native Windows app on an Alt plus Space shortcut, with Connected Apps and Spark inside it. Windows 10 and 11, free to download today. → Put it on your desktop
🌐 Cohere released a 218B translation model scoring 83.6 on WMT26, against DeepL NextGen at 81.37 and Google Translate at 68.20. Weights are on Hugging Face under a non-commercial licence. → Go get the weights
🪪 Ant International, Visa and Mastercard agreed to bridge their three agent identity protocols into one Know Your Agent framework. No specs, no governance, no timeline, and only 14% of consumers trust an agent to buy anything. → Read the fine print
Positron Raised $875 Million – The inference chip startup closed at a $5 billion valuation, nearly five times its February mark, to carry the Asimov chip to tape out.
Universal Signed ElevenLabs – The first major label deal for ElevenLabs covers a licensed platform where fans remix participating UMG artists, and it has no launch date yet.
Nvidia Booked Two Gigawatts In Australia – Eight local operators including AirTrunk, NEXTDC and IREN will run the AI factories, with Sharon AI alone deploying up to 68,000 GPUs by 2027.
ElevenLabs: Turn the script into a voice your listeners will not question.
Julius AI: Upload the spreadsheet and ask it what you would ask an analyst.
Hebbia: Ask one question across a thousand documents and get the passage back.
Resume Worded: Finds the reason your CV gets filtered out before a human reads it.
Three stories about who actually sets the terms. The president said the risk is not his concern while the researchers inside the labs said it is theirs, and only one of those groups can see the training runs. Amazon did not build a model, it bought the shelf space next to one. Cognition did not train a frontier model, it took somebody else's open weights and tuned the last mile. In every case this week the leverage sat with whoever controlled the final step, not whoever paid to create the thing underneath it.
Own the last mile, not the whole road.
