Japan's PM highlights country's role in developing global AI rules

🍵News - Speaking at the annual meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum on Sunday, Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida highlighted Japan's role as a leader in developing global rules to ensure reliable and trustworthy artificial intelligence.

Kishida mentioned that as the chair of the G7 group of industrialized nations, Japan has proposed the Hiroshima AI Process, which addresses issues related to generative AI.

🤔What is the Hiroshima AI process? The G7 leaders decided to create the Hiroshima AI Process at their summit meeting in Hiroshima in May. The purpose behind this was to establish global guidelines for generative AI, with the goal of finalizing these rules by year-end. This move stemmed from concerns that generative AI could potentially spread misinformation and violate intellectual property rights, including copyrights.

😃What's more? Kishida noted that future international rulemaking discussions will also focus on finding ways to prevent a small number of powerful IT companies, which control the development platform for generative AI, from monopolizing services.

Apart from generative AI, the G7 will also focus on whether they can establish effective regulations in various fields like education, security, and elections.

India and Australia join forces to address challenges posed by AI technology

👬News - In the light of rapid technological advancements, India and Australia have joined forces to oversee the regulation of emerging technologies.

The two nations are committed to establishing uniform standards across various domains, including artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, 6G, and Big Data. They have also emphasized the importance of like-minded nations working together to collectively address the challenges posed by these new technologies.

🧐What is their primary objective? The two nations are aiming to strengthen collaboration on technical standards, spectrum management, and the development of telecommunications policies.

Additionally, they are actively working to establish an ethical foundation that focuses on principles such as privacy, data protection, fair competition, inclusivity, and sustainability.

However it is important to note that although India and Australia share a common goal of regulating emerging technologies, they have taken different approaches in certain areas. While Australia has opted for a comprehensive ban on high-risk AI tools and actively engaged the public through consultations, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has embraced AI, and plans to introduce AI-powered instant payment systems soon.

Actor Tom Hanks warns fans of fake AI version of him promoting dental plan

🥵News - Tom Hanks cautioned his 9.5 million Instagram followers about a deceptive dental plan ad featuring his likeness, which was generated using artificial intelligence. The actor emphasized that he had no involvement in this AI-generated video and urged everyone to "beware."

Despite having approved digitally altered versions of himself for movie roles, the Oscar-winning actor has previously raised concerns about the unauthorized use of AI in film and television on several occasions.

🙄Is anyone tackling the underlying issue? In an interview with British comedian Adam Buxton, Hanks mentioned that there are ongoing discussions within various guilds, agencies, and legal firms to address the legal implications surrounding the use of his face, voice, and that of others as intellectual property.

The actors' strike which commenced a few months after the writers' strike is still ongoing. Led by Sag-Aftra - the union representing Hollywood actors, the strike primarily revolves around the unauthorized use of AI-generated actor likenesses.

However, with the US writers' strike having concluded recently, there is hope that the resolution reached by the writers could pave the way for a solution to the ongoing strike by Hollywood actors.
