Key Points

  • YouTube's new Inspiration tab uses AI to suggest video ideas, titles, thumbnails, and even outlines, making it easier for creators to brainstorm and plan their content.

  • Veo, an AI from DeepMind, is being added to YouTube Shorts. It provides AI-generated backgrounds and lets you create six-second videos, all with clear AI labels.

  • YouTube is also rolling out expanded auto-dubbing and new AI tools for better interaction in the Communities section.

▶️News - At their Made on YouTube event in New York City on Wednesday, YouTube introduced new AI tools that could change how creators plan and make videos.

🧰What are these tools? First, YouTube’s introducing an Inspiration tab in the Studio app. It uses AI to suggest video ideas, titles, thumbnails, outlines, and even the opening lines.  It’s meant to help with brainstorming and can also be used to develop entire projects.

Then, there’s Veo, an AI video model from DeepMind that’s being added to YouTube Shorts. It’s part of the “Dream Screen” feature, which gives you AI-generated backgrounds, kind of like a green screen but with more options.  You can also create full videos with Veo, but they’re limited to six-second clips. Veo is built right into the Shorts editor, and videos will be watermarked and labeled to show they’re AI-generated.

Both features will be available to creators later this year or early next.

😀What's more? YouTube’s adding more AI features, like an expanded auto-dubbing tool that will now support more creators and languages. Plus, there are new AI tools coming to the Communities section, making it easier for creators to interact with their fans.

🤖What all this could mean for the platform - With these new AI tools, creators could have a lot more opportunities to make content easily. But there’s a chance YouTube might end up with a bunch of similar AI-generated videos that all look and sound the same.

From YouTube's standpoint, the goal has been to make it simpler for anyone to become a creator. In the end, it will come down to how each creator decides to use these tools.

☕News - Last year, the United Nations set up a 39-member advisory group to handle AI governance issues. This week, the group shared its final report, which offers seven recommendations to address risks and fill gaps in how we manage AI.

📒Here’s what they suggested -

  • Create a panel for unbiased AI information and to bridge gaps between labs and the public.

  • Start a new policy dialogue on AI governance and set up an AI standards exchange and a global network to enhance governance skills.

  • Establish a global AI fund to address capacity and collaboration issues.

  • Develop a global AI data framework for better transparency and accountability.

  • Set up a small AI office to coordinate and support these initiatives.

These recommendations will be discussed at a U.N. summit this month.
