👩‍🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom?

Nvidia launches Chat with RTX, an AI tool that lets you run chatbots locally on your PC

👨🏻‍💻News - Nvidia has launched a new competitor to ChatGPT named Chat with RTX. This free-to-download tool lets users personalize a GenAI model similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and run it offline on Windows PCs.

😎Here's how it works -

  • Users can easily connect local PC files to open-source large language models like Mistral or Llama 2, enabling quick and relevant queries for answers.

  • The tool supports multiple file formats such as .txt, .pdf, .doc/.docx, and .xml. Simply point it to the folder with these files, and it will load them into its library within seconds.

  • According to the company, instead of searching through notes or saved content, users can simply type queries like, “What was the restaurant my partner recommended while in Las Vegas?” Chat with RTX will scan local files the user points it to and provide the answer with context.

  • Additionally, users have the option to input the URL of a YouTube playlist. The application will then import the transcriptions of the videos in the playlist, enabling users to ask questions based on the content covered.

🧏🏻‍♀️ But a key limitation to remember is -

  • Chat with RTX doesn't retain context, meaning it won't link follow-up questions to previous ones. For example, if you ask about a movie and then ask who directed it, Chat with RTX won't remember which movie you were talking about.

OpenAI equips ChatGPT with memory controls to remember and forget things at your command

🤓News - OpenAI has introduced new memory controls, allowing users to prompt ChatGPT to forget or remember specific information for future conversations.

The feature, currently in testing, has been made available only to a small group of free and paid ChatGPT users. The company plans to review user feedback before making it available to more users.

💁🏻‍♀️Here's a breakdown of everything you need to know -

  • The controls allow you to instruct ChatGPT to remember specific information, review its memory, or disable its memory entirely.

  • According to OpenAI, memory can be particularly useful in business contexts, such as remembering things like how you like your blog posts and what programming languages you use.

  • GPTs, which are custom chatbots available in the GPT Store, will also have their own memories. For instance, the Books GPT can remember the books you've read and your favorite genres. However, these memories will not be shared with ChatGPT, and vice versa.

  • The memory feature is enabled by default, but you can easily turn it off for both ChatGPT and GPTs from the settings menu. When disabled, neither ChatGPT nor GPTs will create or use memories. You can also view and delete specific memories or clear all memories from the same menu.

  • It's important to note that deleting a chat from chat history won't erase memories from ChatGPT or a GPT; you need to delete the memory itself to erase it.

  • For those concerned about privacy, OpenAI is introducing an option called temporary chats where conversations and memories aren't stored. However, this feature too is initially available only to a limited group of users.
