Sanctuary AI's new humanoid can learn tasks in 24 hours
🦾News - Sanctuary AI has unveiled the seventh generation of its Phoenix humanoid robot, which the Canadian company says brings it closer to achieving its goal of creating the world's first "human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots."
🔍How so? The company mentioned that it made numerous improvements to both the robot’s hardware and its AI control system, these include:
Increased uptime, which allows the robot to dedicate more time to training and data capture.
There is increased range of motion in the wrists, hands, and elbows of the robot, along with improved hand durability.
The robot now has faster build and commissioning speed, allowing Sanctuary to deploy more units rapidly.
It also boasts improved visual acuity and tactile sensing, providing higher-fidelity data for training the AI control system.
Most importantly, the time required to automate new tasks has decreased from weeks to less than 24 hours, signifying a significant increase in task automation speed and autonomous system capability.
OpenAI's Sam Altman and other tech leaders to serve on federal AI safety board
☕News - Sam Altman from OpenAI, along with CEOs from Nvidia, Microsoft, and Alphabet, are among the industry leaders who have joined a new federal advisory board. This board aims to ensure the safe use of artificial intelligence in critical US infrastructure, as part of the Biden administration's efforts to address the regulatory gaps in rapidly advancing AI technology.
In addition to AI and technology leaders, the panel of nearly two dozen includes academics, civil rights advocates, and executives from companies operating within federally recognized critical infrastructure sectors.
🧐What is the purpose? The Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board is a part of the government's initiative to safeguard the economy, public health, and crucial industries from potential threats posed by AI.
Collaborating with the Department of Homeland Security, the board will provide recommendations to various sectors such as power-grid operators, transportation-service providers, and manufacturing plants. These recommendations aim to help them integrate AI into their systems while ensuring they are resilient against potential disruptions caused by advancements in AI technology.
The board is scheduled to hold its first meeting in May and will convene quarterly, according to a DHS official.
Nvidia CEO personally delivers first NVIDIA DGX H200 to OpenAI leaders
🚚News - In what seems to be a new tradition, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang personally delivered the first NVIDIA DGX H200 to OpenAI. In a photo shared by Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI, Huang is seen posing with Brockman and chief Sam Altman, with the DGX H200 in between them.

Back in 2016, Huang donated the first DGX-1 AI supercomputer to OpenAI as a step towards democratizing AI technology. At that time, Elon Musk, a proud co-founder and member of OpenAI, was the one who received it.

📦What is Nvidia's DGX H200 system? The upgraded GPU represents a significant leap forward from its highly sought-after predecessor, the H100. With 141 GB of memory running at 4.8 TB/s, compared to the H100's 80 GB at 3.3 TB/s, the H200 is hailed by Nvidia as "the world’s most powerful GPU for supercharging AI workloads".
🤓What's more? In addition to delivering the latest AI processing system, Huang also signed the supercomputer with the message: "to advance AI, computing, and humanity".
In 2016, the donation of the DGX-1 significantly accelerated OpenAI's research efforts. With the remarkable performance leap to the DGX H200, a similar impact is expected. This new GPU could be a valuable addition to OpenAI’s resources, especially as the organization is currently developing GPT-5 and plans to make Sora publicly available this year.
