Key Points

  • The company is producing 25,000 pizzas monthly and plans to expand beyond the US after raising a $2.5M seed round.

  • Instead of replacing workers the robot assists staff by saving up to 80 percent of the time per pizza.

📖News - XRobotics, a San Francisco startup, believes it’s figured out how to get pizza restaurants on board with robotics. Its new product, the xPizza Cube, is a compact countertop machine about the size of a stackable washing machine.

It uses machine learning to apply sauce cheese, and pepperoni to dough and can produce up to 100 pizzas an hour. At $1,300 a month on a three-year lease, it’s priced for both local shops and larger chains.

đŸ€–Product-market fit - Their first machine launched in 2021 was large and complex. It failed for many of the same reasons as Zume’s. The team went back to the drawing board, built a smaller version, and launched the current model in 2023. Today their robots produce 25,000 pizzas a month though the company hasn’t shared how many clients that includes.

đŸ•”ïžâ€â™‚ïžWhat’s behind the 25K pizzas? The idea isn’t to replace workers, says co-founder and CEO Denis Rodionov but to take care of repetitive tasks. If you have a pepperoni pizza, you need to place 50 slices one by one, he said. “This saves like almost 70, sometimes 80 percent of the time for the staff.

Notably, XRobotics isn’t the first to try this. Zume, a well-known robotics company, raised over $420 million to build automated pizza trucks, only to shut down in 2023. Rodionov says what sets them apart is their focus on assistive tools that work in real kitchens rather than trying to completely reinvent the process.

To that end, XRobotics recently raised a $2.5 million seed round led by FinSight Ventures, and plans to expand to Mexico and Canada next.

This week’s topic: Integration

Key Points

  • Apple's new Visual Intelligence in iOS 26 brings AI-powered image analysis directly to iPhone screens for faster content interaction.

  • This feature enables smart shortcuts like image search and calendar event creation, plus direct screenshot uploads to ChatGPT.

🍏News - Apple unveiled an exciting new feature at its WWDC 2025 event: 'Visual Intelligence.' This AI-powered image analysis technology will be integrated directly into the iPhone screen with the upcoming iOS 26.

đŸ‘šâ€đŸ’»Why this matters - Apple notes that this feature aims to make interactions with iPhone content faster and more efficient, working automatically across all applications.

Visual Intelligence is designed to simplify and speed up user interactions. It is accessible via the screenshot button. The technology enables swift actions, such as performing an image search for an item seen within a social media app, directly through Google Search or other frequently used applications.

đŸ€“What’s more? Beyond basic image search, Visual Intelligence offers intelligent shortcut options. It can extract contextual information, including dates, times, and locations, to quickly pre-populate and add events to a calendar. A notable feature also allows users to upload a screenshot directly to ChatGPT for analysis and additional information, showcasing Apple's broader push for AI utility.

Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software engineering, confirmed that developers will be able to integrate Apple Intelligence into their own applications using App Intents, facilitating visual search features across various apps.

😕A missed AI opportunity? While Apple also introduced new live translation capabilities and group-chat upgrades on Monday, some investors expressed disappointment, noting that the AI announcements did not fully meet their expectations for a substantial 'comeback' in the AI space.
