👨🏼💻News - OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has ignited the tech world with reports of him seeking to build a dedicated AI chip fabrication plant in collaboration with chipmaking giant TSMC. This ambitious move, driven by billions in potential investor funding, aims to revolutionize AI hardware and propel OpenAI further into the cutting-edge field.
While both OpenAI and TSMC remain tight-lipped on the details, whispers point towards discussions with prominent investors like Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan of Abu Dhabi. The exact figures involved are shrouded in secrecy, but the scale of the project promises to be game-changing.

In a parallel development, it has been revealed that Tang Tan, Apple's VP of iPhone design, is joining forces with legendary designer Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Altman on a new AI hardware project. This collaboration comes amid reports from November last year indicating Altman's plans to launch a new AI venture.
Notably, OpenAI had previously operated a robotics research division, which was disbanded in July 2021 due to technical challenges. The current talks with TSMC mark a strategic move by OpenAI to venture into the domain of AI chip manufacturing, potentially reshaping the landscape of artificial intelligence hardware.
Nvidia CEO makes long-awaited return to China amidst rising mainland market challenges
👨💻News - After a four-year absence, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang returned to China to address annual company meetings, facing headwinds in the world's second-largest economy. His visit comes as Beijing and Washington remain locked in a bitter tech rivalry, impacting the American chip giant.
Huang's itinerary included stops in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, culminating in on-stage appearances at company events. Officially, the trip was dubbed a "New Year celebration" with employees, but analysts see it as a strategic move to navigate a complex landscape.
🕵️♂️What’s more about Jensen’s visit? This is Huang's first Chinese visit since December 2019, when he lauded AI adoption in key sectors. A planned 2023 trip to meet with tech titans like Tencent and Xiaomi was abruptly canceled, highlighting the heightened tensions.
The backdrop for Huang's visit is far from rosy. In October, the U.S. tightened chip export rules, restricting access to China-specific GPUs designed by Nvidia. This move, coupled with earlier curbs, is expected to significantly slash Nvidia's China revenue in the coming quarter.
Well, the company is actively working on developing new products tailored for the Chinese market that comply with U.S. regulations, acknowledging the complexity of this process and the time it will require.
Scientists harness AI to uncover secrets behind imagination and memory
💁🏼News - Researchers at University College London have used artificial intelligence to shed light on the mysterious workings of human memory and imagination. This groundbreaking study, published in Nature Human Behaviour, reveals how memories fuel our ability to learn, relive the past, and construct new worlds in our minds.
👨🏼⚖️What was the focus of the study? The study centered on the hippocampus and neocortex, two key brain regions that tango during memory, imagination, and planning. Using an AI model mimicking these brain areas, researchers exposed it to thousands of simple scenes. The model's "hippocampus" rapidly encoded each scene, while its "neocortex" trained on the information, learning to represent the scenes conceptually.
This process mirrors how humans learn from past experiences. By replaying memories and picking up on patterns, we become better at predicting the future and adapting to new situations. This ability is at the heart of our survival and success.
