šŸ¤«OpenAIā€™s o1 Model Leaked

PLUS: Alexa's 'Agentic' Upgrade

Reading time: 5 minutes

Key Points

  • OpenAIā€™s o1 model leaked briefly, allowing users to access its full capabilities before being shut down.

  • Users were impressed by the model's ability to solve complex problems, including math, image puzzles, and processing large datasets.

ā˜•News - The full version of OpenAIā€™s latest AI model, o1, leaked for a brief two hours on Friday, allowing users a sneak peek before the company promptly shut it down.

Since its announcement in September, o1 had only been accessible to paying users in preview form. Several users on X discovered a workaround: by making a simple change to the URL, they could access the modelā€™s complete capabilities, making this leak an unexpected early look at its potential.

šŸ‘ØšŸ»ā€šŸ’»What did they find? Early glimpses suggest that the full release of o1 may offer notable advancements over previous models. Users who accessed the model reported impressive results, from solving advanced math problems to completing intricate image puzzles.

One user shared that the model could generate a full ā€œ01 Chain of Thoughtā€ when analyzing a SpaceX launch photo, while another found it could process large JSON data files, which was previously impossible due to token constraints in the preview version

Even in its "preview form," the o1 model has already gained recognition from experts for its enhanced performance on standardized tests and its new chain-of-thought reasoning capabilities. However, despite these impressive benchmarks, OpenAI recently identified that the model's accuracy remains inconsistent, as it still occasionally produces "hallucinated" responses. Whether the public release of the full version will address these issues is yet to be determined.

Key Points

  • Amazon's new Alexa will use generative AI to proactively perform tasks, going beyond answering questions.

  • Alexa's upgrade will include new foundation models, with a launch delay pushing the release to 2025.

šŸ¤–News - Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has teased an enhanced, ā€œagenticā€ version of the Alexa assistant that could take actions on behalf of users.

During Amazonā€™s Q3 2024 earnings call, Jassy shared that future assistants powered by generative AI would not only answer questions and aggregate data, but also proactively perform tasks.

āœØWhat's more? Jassy also revealed that Amazon is working on ā€œre-architecting the brainā€ of Alexa with new foundation models, which the company plans to unveil soon. Amazon is reportedly replacing its own models with those from Anthropic, a company in which itā€™s a major investor.

The redesigned Alexa, known internally as "Remarkable Alexa," is expected to cost between $5 to $10 per month, with a free plan also available. While initially expected to debut in October, reports now suggest the release has been delayed until 2025.
