OpenAI unveils GPT-4o, a faster, smarter AI model that is free for all users
🤩News - OpenAI has announced the launch of GPT-4o, an upgraded version of the GPT-4 model that powers ChatGPT.
During a livestream announcement, OpenAI CTO Mira Murati stated that the new model is much faster and has improved capabilities in text, vision, and audio processing.
✨Key points -
GPT-4o will be free for all users, while paid users will have "up to five times the capacity limits" of free users.
Its capabilities will be rolled out gradually, with text and image capabilities starting to roll out today in ChatGPT.
The model is "natively multimodal," allowing it to generate content or understand commands in voice, text, or images seamlessly.
Developers interested in experimenting with GPT-4o will have access to the API, which is twice as fast as GPT-4 Turbo and available at half the price.
The model also brings new features to ChatGPT's voice mode, transforming the app into a Her-like voice assistant capable of providing real-time responses and observing its surroundings, unlike the current voice mode which is more limited, responding to one prompt at a time based on what it hears.
Meta developing earbuds with built-in camera for next AI wearable
🎧News - Meta is developing a new AI wearable called "Camerabuds" that combines the functionality of earbuds or headphones with built-in cameras and artificial intelligence.
According to insiders, these AI-powered devices will be able to identify objects and translate foreign languages in real time.
The Camerabuds project, much like Meta's integration of Meta AI into Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, is about bringing AI capabilities directly to users through their audio devices. Just as with the Ray-Ban glasses, Camerabuds aim to offer users a familiar form factor while providing a multi-modal Meta AI experience.
💇🏻♀️What's more? According to reports, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reviewed several potential designs for the Camerabuds but has yet to find one that meets his approval. Moreover, the company is still deciding whether to go with wireless earbuds or over-the-ear headphones for the final design.
However, this isn't the only challenge in the development of Camerabuds. Meta engineers have expressed concerns about battery life, heat management, and the privacy implications of camera-equipped wearables. Furthermore, individuals with long hair may obstruct the view of the cameras, posing another potential challenge.
US, China to engage in discussions on AI risks and safety
☕News - Today, officials from the US and China will gather in Geneva to kick off a series of discussions focused on artificial intelligence.
US officials clarified that Washington's policies, particularly those concerning the restriction of certain technologies from being exported to China, would not be up for negotiation.
📝So then what's the agenda?
The talks will mainly cover AI risks and safety, especially focusing on advanced systems. Representatives from both sides will also exchange insights on the domestic efforts undertaken in their respective countries to address AI-related risks.
A senior US official stated that the talks will allow Washington to directly communicate its concerns regarding China's rapid deployment of AI across civilian, military, and national security sectors, which often undermines the security of the US and its allies.
Another US official mentioned that while Washington and Beijing are competing to influence AI regulations, they also aim to discuss whether certain rules could be accepted by all nations. "We certainly don't see eye to eye on many AI topics and applications, but we believe that communication on critical AI risks can make the world safer," the official said.
It's important to note that while these talks mark an important step in fostering dialogue between the two countries, they are not expected to result in any technical collaboration or cooperation on frontier research. Additionally, no joint statement or other "deliverables" are expected to emerge from the discussions at this point.

💡Prompt engineering tips
Try Conditional Prompts: Use conditional statements like "If...then..." to guide the model's response based on certain conditions.
Use Prefixes: Use predefined prefixes such as "Translate:", "Summarize:", "Generate:", etc., to indicate the desired task.
Use Multiple Prompts: Experiment with providing multiple related prompts to give the model different angles to approach the task.
