OpenAI says ten thousand agents cracked a ninety year old problem in 88 hours. Google signed a twenty two year nuclear contract to run its Finnish data centers. And Meta shipped an agent with its own computer and your credit card.

Ten thousand agents did the work. A mathematician says he recognizes the method.
WHAT HAPPENED
OpenAI published a proof on Tuesday claiming a result on the Navier-Stokes equations, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems and worth a million dollars. An internal model the company describes as significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra ran roughly 10,000 concurrent agents for about 88 hours, generating 2.7 million messages and around 130 billion output tokens. The proof establishes that an initially smooth fluid at rest can develop a singularity in finite time, resolving statements C and D of the official formulation and leaving global regularity untouched. GPT-6 Astra then formalised and verified the result in Lean over a further 17 hours. NYU mathematician Tristan Buckmaster, who had spent about a year on the same forcing approach with Anthropic researcher Levent Alpöge, says OpenAI adopted the method within days of learning about their progress. OpenAI's Sébastien Bubeck denies it, saying no prompt or proof of theirs was used.
WHY IT MATTERS
Machines have been doing mathematics for years. What is new is that the output is now good enough for people to fight over who owns it, and that fight only makes sense if you have already conceded the work is real. Lean formalization settles correctness in a way no referee report ever has, so the proof is right while the credit is contested, which is the exact inverse of how mathematics has handled its disputes for three hundred years. The other number worth holding is 130 billion tokens. That is an invoice. A Millennium Prize now has a rough price attached to it, and six of them are still unclaimed.
OUR TAKE
The credit fight will be settled by people reading Lean files, and it is the smaller story. The bigger one is that OpenAI has published a cost for this kind of result, roughly four days and 130 billion tokens, and every lab with a compute budget can now do the arithmetic on what is left.
Watch the Clay Mathematics Institute. It has never had to decide who a prize belongs to when the prover was rented by the hour, and whatever it decides will become the rule for everything that follows.

The money expands the existing Hamina site and builds three new data centres at Kajaani, Vaala and Muhos across 2027 and 2028. Alongside it Google signed a 22 year power purchase agreement with Fortum for up to half of the Loviisa nuclear plant's output between 2030 and 2049, keeping the reactors running to 2050, plus a letter of intent on building new capacity. A 94 megawatt battery system near Kajaani follows in late 2027. Construction is forecast to support more than 37,000 jobs, and 7,000 once the sites are live.

Every user gets a dedicated virtual machine in Meta's cloud, with a browser you can watch it drive and a gatekeeper called Sentinel deciding which services it may reach. Muse books travel, shops, handles email and negotiates on your behalf, and you can give it a name, an avatar and a manner. It is US only at launch, on iOS, Android and web, with glasses support next. Tiers run free, 20 dollars and 100 dollars a month, and Alexandr Wang says most people should never need to leave the free one. No ads.

Three stories, one bill. OpenAI priced a Millennium Prize at four days of compute. Google priced twenty years of Finnish electricity before pouring the concrete that needs it. Meta handed every user a virtual machine and will carry the cost of everyone who never upgrades. The public arguments this week were about credit, sovereignty and privacy, and underneath every one of them somebody was quietly buying capacity ahead of demand.
Buy the capacity before you need it.
