♨️News – China has officially blocked domestic tech companies from buying Nvidia’s AI chips. The Cyberspace Administration of China issued the ban this week, telling companies including ByteDance and Alibaba to stop testing and ordering Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D server, which was built specifically for the Chinese market.

👨‍💻Fast facts –

  • In August, Beijing had already discouraged companies from buying Nvidia chips and promoted local alternatives.

  • Huawei and Alibaba make their own chips, but Nvidia remains the global leader in advanced AI hardware.

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he was disappointed but patient, calling the issue part of larger U.S.–China tensions.

  • Earlier U.S. export restrictions had already cost Nvidia billions in lost sales to China.

  • Nvidia has since stopped including China in its profit forecasts, signaling the market is effectively closed.

🤓OpenTools POV –  China’s move signals a deeper shift toward self-reliance in semiconductors, while Nvidia faces the reality of an AI future shaped by geopolitics as much as innovation.

☕News – Zoom is getting ready to launch lifelike AI avatars that can step in for you during meetings when you are not camera-ready. Starting December, Workplace users will be able to upload a photo and create a digital version of themselves that mirrors their movements in real time.

  • Users can choose professional outfits for their avatars.

  • Live camera checks will verify that the avatar matches the user.

  • A notice will appear on screen to show when an avatar is active.

  • Real-time voice translation will cover nine major languages.

  • Zoom’s AI assistant is expanding to Teams and Google Meet for note-taking and scheduling.

🤓OpenTools POV – This move signals how fast digital stand-ins are becoming part of the workplace. As avatars start to handle more interactions, the bigger question is how teams will balance convenience with trust and authenticity in meetings.
