Key Points

  • Nvidia's GR00T Blueprint uses imitation learning to teach robots tasks by mimicking human actions.

  • Teleoperation allows users to train robots remotely, creating digital twins of movements for precise learning.

  • Apple’s Vision Pro helps capture actions, enabling robots to refine and practice tasks in simulation.

🦾Context of the news - Robotics have been a major force behind Nvidia’s rapid growth in recent years. When the company introduced GR00T last March, it was seen as a game-changer for humanoid robotics. The launch brought together some of the biggest names in the industry, including Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, and Sanctuary AI, signaling a big step forward in what robots can do.

☕News - At CES on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled Blueprint, an important new feature of GR00T. This technology is built around imitation learning—a way for robots to learn by watching and copying human actions.

It’s a practical approach, especially for robots designed to automate tasks in factories and warehouses, where humanoids are already starting to be deployed.

Teleoperation also plays a key role here, letting people teach robots remotely by capturing their movements digitally. This makes it easier to train robots quickly and accurately.

🤹🏻‍♂️How does it all come together? Blueprint takes things further by integrating with Apple’s Vision Pro. Using this setup, users can create a “digital twin” of their actions, which the robot can then practice and perfect in a simulation. This approach makes teaching robots intuitive and helps them perform tasks with greater precision.

Key Points

  • The combined company, led by Getty CEO Craig Peters, is projected to generate nearly $2B in revenue.

  • Regulators will assess the merger’s impact on traditional image sales and the new copyright-compliant AI business model.

♨️News - Getty Images announced it will merge with Shutterstock to create a $3.7 billion stock-image powerhouse aimed at thriving in the AI era.

The two companies, both major players in the licensed visual content industry, are banking on the merger to cut costs and unlock new revenue opportunities as generative AI tools like Midjourney continue to disrupt the market.

Craig Peters, Getty’s CEO, will lead the combined company, which is projected to bring in nearly $2 billion in annual revenue. With Getty’s massive content library and Shutterstock’s strong platform community, the merger aims to better position the company in a changing landscape.

⏭️What's next? Regulators will closely examine how the merger affects two key areas: the traditional business model of selling images to media companies, and the newer model of offering copyright-compliant generative AI tools to the public.

If all goes according to plan, the merger could lead to $200 million in cost savings by year three. Getty investors will own about 54.7% of the new company, with Shutterstock stockholders holding the rest.
