🌟Nvidia’s New AI

PLUS: First-Ever Robot Art Auction

Key Points

  • The model was trained using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback, which helps it understand and respond to language in a more natural way.

  • Though powerful, it’s not optimized for specialized tasks like math and legal reasoning.

♨️News - Nvidia has released a new artificial intelligence model known as Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct.  The model was launched without much fanfare on the AI platform Hugging Face, but it quickly caught attention.

Its performance across key benchmarks has surpassed top models from OpenAI and Anthropic, signaling a major shift in Nvidia’s approach to AI.

🤷🏻‍♂️How is it different? To create this powerful new model, Nvidia built on Meta’s open-source Llama 3.1, using advanced training techniques like Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). This method lets the AI learn directly from human preferences, making its responses feel more natural and on point.

What really sets it apart is its ability to handle tricky questions without extra prompting. For example, it nailed the question that often trips up most AI models, "How many r’s are in strawberry?" with a detailed and accurate response—showing its strong grasp of language and its potential for real-world applications.

🧐Are there any limitations? While the new model is impressive, Nvidia has made it clear that it’s not designed for everything. It hasn’t been tuned for highly specialized areas like math or legal reasoning, where accuracy is critical. For businesses, that means they’ll need to use it thoughtfully and ensure the model is applied appropriately, with safeguards in place to avoid errors or misuse in these sensitive fields.

Key Points

  • The artwork, a portrait of Alan Turing, is expected to fetch between £100,000 and £150,000.

  • Ai-Da looks remarkably lifelike, has bionic hands, and uses advanced AI algorithms to create her artwork.

🤖News - Ai-Da, a humanoid robot artist, is about to make history as the first AI to have a painting sold at a major auction house. The piece, titled “AI God,” will be auctioned online at Sotheby’s next month.

This striking portrait of Alan Turing, a key figure in modern computing, is expected to sell for between £100,000 and £150,000 (around US$130,000 and US$196,000).

👩🏻‍🎨For context - Designed to resemble a human woman, Ai-Da features a lifelike face, large eyes, and a brown wig. It employs advanced AI algorithms, complete with cameras for eyes and bionic hands, with which it creates its paintings.

🎨The inspiration behind "AI God" -  Aidan Meller, gallery owner and founder of the Ai-Da Robot studio, shared that the idea for the portrait came from Turing’s concerns about AI in the 1950s. He pointed out that the artwork’s “muted tones and broken facial planes” seem to reflect the struggles Turing warned about regarding AI management.

Meller described Ai-Da’s art as “ethereal and haunting,” highlighting how it raises important questions about where AI might take us and the global race to control its power.

🖌️See also - Interestingly, Ai-Da isn’t new to the art scene. In 2022, she painted portraits of the headlining acts at the Glastonbury Festival, including stars like Billie Eilish, Diana Ross, Kendrick Lamar, and Paul McCartney. With this upcoming auction, Ai-Da continues to challenge perceptions of art and creativity in the age of AI.
