Anthropic claims chips are being smuggled using fake baby bumps and lobster shipments, pushing for tighter export rules.
Nvidia pushed back, accusing Anthropic of exaggeration and using policy to limit competition rather than innovate.
The Biden-era AI Diffusion Rule kicks in May 15, with a possible Trump-era update adding more pressure and uncertainty.
â¨ď¸News - Nvidia and Anthropic are in a public fight over US chip export restrictions, just as a key regulation is about to take effect on May 15. The rule, known as the AI Diffusion Rule, puts global limits on advanced chip exports and model weights in an effort to slow down Chinaâs progress in AI.
Tensions flared after Anthropic published a blog post warning about smuggling tactics it claims are already happening. According to the company, chips have been hidden in prosthetic baby bumps and even packed alongside live lobsters. Nvidia responded sharply, accusing Anthropic of telling âtall talesâ and trying to use policy to gain a competitive edge.
đŹWhatâs at stake - Anthropic relies heavily on Nvidiaâs chips but argued that compute access is the key choke point in the global AI race. It called for lower export thresholds for Tier 2 nations, stronger anti-smuggling rules, and more enforcement funding. Nvidia, however, warned that such restrictions could limit US competitiveness and help rivals like China.
âď¸What comes next - The current rule was introduced under President Biden, but reports suggest Trump is working on a tougher version. That adds another layer of uncertainty to an already high-stakes debate about how the US should protect its lead in AI.

Key Points
Integrations allows Claude to connect with apps like Atlassian and Zapier, enhancing its productivity and task automation.
Advanced Research enables Claude to access hundreds of sources for deeper, more comprehensive reports on various topics.
đ¤News - Anthropic has launched two new exciting features aimed at boosting Claudeâs functionality.
đ¤Whatâs new - The first is Integrations, a feature that allows apps and tools to connect directly to Claude, expanding its functionality. Built on the companyâs MCP protocol, this feature enables Claude to access data from business tools and content repositories.
Popular integrations from partners like Atlassian, Zapier, and Square are already available, allowing Claude to summarize Confluence pages or automate workflows through Zapier. Currently, Integrations is in beta for subscribers to Claude Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, with plans to extend it to the Pro tier soon.
Alongside Integrations, Anthropic launched Advanced Research, a new feature that allows Claude to conduct in-depth research by crawling internal and external sources.
The tool can pull data from hundreds of sources, providing more detailed and comprehensive reports. Claudeâs ability to break down complex requests into smaller parts and provide citations for its findings is a step up from its previous, more basic research capabilities. This feature is available to Claude Max users and can be accessed via the Claude Desktop app on macOS and Windows.
đ¨âđťWhy this matters - Both new tools signal Anthropicâs drive to compete with heavyweights like Googleâs Gemini and OpenAIâs ChatGPT. While Anthropic is still growing, its new features indicate a bold move to carve out a larger share of the AI market, with ambitions to reach $34.5 billion in revenue by 2027.
