All this and more - Let's dive in!
🗞️What’s cooking in the newsroom
Deezer streaming service will now detect and delete 'deepfake' AI songs
📻News - Deezer, a French music streaming service, has developed technology that can identify and potentially delete songs that use artificial intelligence (AI) to clone pop stars' voices.
The technology uses a combination of machine learning and natural language processing to analyze the audio of a song and identify any signs that it has been created using AI.
If a song is identified as being created using AI, it will be flagged for review by Deezer's team of experts. The experts will then decide whether or not to delete the song.
🤔But why did Deezer take such a step? Deezer's decision to develop this technology is a response to the growing concern about the use of AI to create deepfake songs. These are songs that have been created using AI to replicate the vocals of a real artist. These songs can be used to create unauthorized or fraudulent music or to spread misinformation.
Well, Deezer's technology is not perfect. It is possible that some songs that have been created using AI will be able to evade detection. However, the technology is a step in the right direction and it could help to protect artists from having their voices stolen.
Elon Musk has learned that China is planning to regulate AI
☕News - Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has stated that China is planning to initiate regulations for artificial intelligence (AI). His statement comes after a meeting with senior officials in Beijing last week.
The regulations that China is reportedly planning to implement are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including data privacy, security, and ethics.
👣Has China taken any step toward AI regulation though?
In April, China's cyberspace regulator released draft measures for managing generative AI services. The measures require companies to submit security assessments to authorities before launching any AI services to the public. 😮
The same month, China's Cyberspace Administration (CAC) said that the country supports AI innovation and application, but that content generated by generative AI must align with China's core socialist values. The CAC also encouraged the use of safe and reliable software, tools, and data resources. 🙀
Per the Chinese government, providers will be responsible for the legitimacy of data used to train generative AI products and measures should be taken to prevent discrimination when designing algorithms and training data. 👀
Apple is silently inducing demand for AI in 1.36 billion users
🤔Background - Apple has been quietly working on artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, but it has not been as vocal about its progress as some of its competitors.
💉So how is Apple creating demand for AI? Apple is subtly cultivating demand for AI among its staggering user base through a number of strategies, including:
🤯Making AI features simple- Apple's AI features are often integrated into the user interface in a way that makes them easy to use. For example - At its worldwide developer conference, WWDC 2023, Apple introduced a new autocorrect system in iOS 17 which uses a transformer model. It can learn the patterns of human language and predict the next word or phrase that a user is likely to type.
😯Making AI features super useful - Apple's AI features are designed to be convenient and to make users' lives easier. Just yesterday, Apple announced its first spatial computing headset called Apple Vision Pro with a special feature called Persona. It is a digital avatar of the user that is created using Apple's most advanced machine-learning techniques.
😺Making AI features reachable - Apple's AI features are available on all of its devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This makes them affordable for a wide range of users.
