Elon Musk is ramping up focus on Tesla’s AI supercomputer, Dojo, in preparation for the robotaxi launch in October.
Tesla aims to reach full self-driving by improving Dojo. The company plans to use extensive video data from FSD subscribers to advance its technology.
☕News - Elon Musk has often talked about Dojo, Tesla's AI supercomputer, which is central to the company's AI goals. He recently mentioned that the company’s AI team will be focusing even more on Dojo as they get ready to launch their robotaxi in October.
🖥️What is Dojo? Dojo is Tesla's custom-built supercomputer designed to train its "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) neural networks. While FSD is already in nearly 2 million Tesla vehicles and can handle some driving tasks, it still requires human supervision.
🤔Why is it important? Statements from Musk and insider information indicate that achieving full autonomy is a top priority for Tesla. Improving Dojo is key to reaching this goal, and the company appears prepared to invest heavily to achieve it.
🚗How will they get there? Around 1.8 million people have paid up to $15,000 for Tesla’s FSD subscription. Thanks to this, Tesla has accumulated millions of miles of video footage to train its FSD system, with the goal of using this data to advance toward full self-driving capabilities. Eventually, Dojo-trained AI software will be distributed to Tesla owners through over-the-air updates.

The US Department of Justice is asking the Sentencing Commission to revise guidelines to impose harsher penalties for crimes involving AI, including those assisted by basic algorithms.
The proposed changes aim to treat AI as an accessory in crimes, with stricter sentences for both direct and indirect involvement.
If adopted, the recommendations could lead to increased penalties for crimes involving AI, particularly white-collar crimes, with judges able to impose harsher sentences based on AI's role.
👨🏻⚖️News - The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has requested that the United States Sentencing Commission revise its guidelines to impose stricter penalties for crimes involving artificial intelligence.
A legal alert from White & Case indicates that these recommendations aim to broaden the scope of penalties to include not just crimes directly committed with AI, but also those assisted by basic algorithms.
📖Proposed changes - Current guidelines only address "sophisticated" AI systems, but the proposed updates would treat AI involved in criminal activities as an accessory, making the person who used it accountable for the crime.
The DOJ has not specified exact scenarios but raised concerns that current technology could make crimes easier, more impactful, and harder to detect. If the recommendations are approved, crimes, especially white-collar ones, could face harsher penalties if AI was used. Additionally, sentencing enhancements would allow judges to increase the punishment beyond the minimum sentence if AI is considered a significant factor.
Here it’s worth noting that while the Sentencing Commission is required to consider the Justice Department's recommendations, it is not legally obligated to adopt them.
