xAI Gives a Peek Into Musk’s Vision for Grok’s “Unhinged Mode”

♨️News - Last April, Elon Musk teased something called “Unhinged Mode” for Grok, the AI-powered chatbot from his company xAI. Fast forward almost a year, and the updated FAQ page on xAI’s website finally gives us a peek into what it’s all about. 

According to the FAQ, Unhinged Mode will let Grok give responses that are “objectionable, inappropriate, and offensive”—basically, like an amateur comedian still figuring out their act. The mode isn’t live yet, but the description alone is already raising eyebrows.

🎯What's the goal behind it all? This new mode seems to be Musk doubling down on what he originally promised Grok would be: unfiltered, edgy, and not afraid to tackle controversial topics other AI models shy away from.

So far, Grok has lived up to some of that, delivering profanity-filled responses when asked to. But it still tiptoes around political issues, often leaning left on things like diversity and transgender rights. Musk says this cautious behavior comes from the chatbot’s training data, which pulls from public webpages.

In December 2023, Musk called Grok’s current version a beta and promised improvements. “The internet,” he wrote, “is overrun with woke nonsense,” and vowed to make Grok more politically neutral—Unhinged Mode is likely a step in that direction.

Google’s new AI feature turns your search history into a personalized podcast

☕News - Google is testing a new AI feature called Daily Listen that creates personalized podcasts based on your Search and Discover feed history. The feature is currently available to Android and iOS users in the US who opt in to try this experiment through Search Labs.

🧐What's it like? The AI behind Daily Listen analyzes your search history and Discover feed to identify news stories that are likely to interest you. It then summarizes those stories into a five-minute audio overview. Along with the audio, you get a text transcript and audio controls that let you pause, mute, rewind, or skip to the next story. 

A “Related stories” tab also appears below the audio player, offering more content you can explore, with the option to like or dislike stories.

🤓When is the public launch expected?

There’s no official word on when or if Daily Listen will be available to the wider public. However, since Google tested features like AI Search Overviews through Search Labs before launching them more broadly, there’s a good chance Daily Listen might also eventually become a permanent feature.
