Microsoft in talks to lock in OpenAI access beyond AGI

♨️News –   Microsoft is reportedly close to a new deal with OpenAI that would ensure ongoing access to the startup’s technology even if OpenAI reaches what it defines as AGI, or advanced general intelligence. The agreement would help OpenAI move toward a fully commercial structure, but regulatory concerns and investor tensions are still in play.

👨‍💻Fast facts –

  • Microsoft has invested $13.75 billion in OpenAI and currently holds rights that expire in 2030 or if AGI is achieved.

  • Talks could give Microsoft an equity stake of around 30 to 35 percent in a restructured for-profit entity.

  • OpenAI wants more flexibility to raise money and operate like a traditional company.

  • Microsoft has built key products like Copilot and Azure services on OpenAI’s models.

  • A lawsuit from Elon Musk and broader scrutiny could still pose challenges.

🤓OpenTools POV – With so much riding on OpenAI’s models, Microsoft is looking to future-proof its investment. As AI moves closer to high-stakes territory like AGI, long-term access is becoming the new competitive edge.

Amazon backed skild reveals universal AI brain for robotics

☕News –  Skild AI, a robotics startup backed by Amazon and SoftBank, has unveiled Skild Brain, a new foundational AI model designed to work across all types of robots. The launch marks a step forward in building machines that can think, move, and adapt more like humans.

👨‍💻Fast facts –

  • Skild Brain helps robots navigate real-world environments, balance under pressure, and handle messy tasks.

  • It learns through simulation, human-action videos, and real-time feedback from every robot using the system.

  • The company says this approach tackles the data gap that has held back robotics compared to language or vision AI.

  • Clients include LG CNS and partners in logistics and industrial sectors.

  • Skild raised $300 million last year and is valued at $1.5 billion, with investors including Jeff Bezos and Sequoia.

🤓OpenTools POV – Skild is betting that shared learning across machines can speed up progress in robotics. If it works, this could push general-purpose robots into real-world use faster than expected.
