Meta to develop a new AI system more powerful than OpenAI's GPT-4

🫡News - Meta is developing a new artificial intelligence system that is expected to be as powerful as the most advanced model ChatGPT-4 offered by OpenAI. The company is aiming to have the system ready by next year and plans to start training it in early 2024.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is pushing for the new model to be open-sourced, meaning that it will be available for free for other companies to use.

🤖Are preparations underway? Well, Meta is currently building new data centers and acquiring more Nvidia H100 chips to train the new system. Interestingly, the company plans to train the new model on its own infrastructure, even though it previously partnered with Microsoft to make its Llama 2 model available on Microsoft's Azure cloud-computing platform.

This move can be considered Meta's strategic effort to reestablish the company as a major player in the AI field after it fell behind its rivals.

However, on a side note, Meta is reportedly struggling to allocate enough resources to all of its LLM (Large Language Model) projects. This has even led to some AI researchers feeling frustrated and leaving the company.

G20 leaders agree on principles of safe AI development

🤓News - The G20 leaders recently committed to the responsible use of artificial intelligence technology.

The leaders of the world's largest economies met in Delhi, India, for the G20 summit, where they discussed the potential benefits and risks of AI. They agreed that AI can be a powerful tool for economic growth and prosperity, but governments will have to ensure that the technology is used in a responsible way.

🤔What were G20’s key highlights on AI?

  • The leaders called for the creation of global rules on AI and for the safeguarding of human rights and privacy. They also recognized that AI could be used for harmful purposes, such as spreading misinformation or launching cyberattacks.

  • To ensure that AI is used responsibly and ethically, the G20 member nations recommended addressing some of the existing concerns, such as data protection, biases, appropriate human oversight, and ethics.

  • In addition, the members reiterated their support for the G20 AI Principles, which were developed in 2019 and outline global policies, cooperation for the development of trustworthy AI.

  • Notably, the development of responsible AI is also aligned with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to achieve peace and prosperity for all people around the world.

Canada issues new guidelines for public servants using Artificial Intelligence

🤖News - The Canadian government has issued new guidelines for public servants who want to use artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT on the job.

The guidelines, which were announced by Treasury Board President Anita Anand, recommend that federal institutions explore ways to use AI tools because AI has the potential to be a powerful tool for improving efficiency, effectiveness, and decision-making.

🎃Any important point? As per the guidelines, if a department uses AI to respond to a citizen, answer questions via a chatbot, create a document, or make a decision, it should be transparent about using the technology.

This means clearly identifying content that has been produced using AI, informing users that they are interacting with an AI tool, documenting decisions, and being able to provide explanations for decisions that are supported by AI.

👽What’s more? The guidelines are grounded in existing legislation, such as the Privacy Act, and may result in penalties for violations. It is a significant step from the government's end to ensure the technology is used to benefit Canadians, while protecting their privacy and security.

Mythbuster

Myth - AI can create flawless art and music

Fact - AI's potential to craft flawless art and music is a misconception. AI-generated works lack the emotional depth, originality, intention, and connection found in human creations. Their limited learning and reliance on data restrict their ability to replicate human creativity accurately.
