Meta partners with Midjourney to boost AI image and video models

♨️News – Meta has struck a licensing deal with Midjourney to bring the startup’s AI image and video technology into its own products. The move, announced by Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, is part of the company’s push to strengthen its AI lineup against rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Black Forest Labs.
👨💻Fast facts –
Meta will integrate Midjourney’s tools into future AI models and products.
The deal follows Meta’s rollout of Imagine and Movie Gen, its own image and video tools.
Midjourney remains independent and has never taken outside funding.
The startup, founded in 2022, reportedly reached $200 million in revenue by 2023.
The partnership comes as Meta invests heavily in AI talent and startups, including a $14 billion stake in Scale AI.
🤓OpenTools POV – By teaming up with Midjourney, Meta is signaling that it is willing to license top-tier technology rather than rely only on its in-house models. This deal could sharpen its competitive edge in AI-generated media, a space that is quickly becoming central to the next wave of consumer products.

Humanoid robot games in Beijing show progress and future potential

☕News – Beijing just hosted the first World Humanoid Robot Games, where robots tried their hand at everything from boxing to backflips. While most stumbled more than they soared, the event highlighted how quickly China is moving to the front of AI-powered robotics.
👨💻Fast facts –
Robots competed in running, jumping, ball-kicking, and combat events.
A humanoid from Unitree completed a 1,500m indoor race in 6:34.40, winning gold.
The robot was far slower than elite athletes but still faster than many humans.
Robots are already used in hotels, restaurants, and elder care in parts of Asia.
China’s “dark factories” run with almost no human workers, showing the scale of automation.
🤓OpenTools POV – What looked like clumsy entertainment was also a glimpse of the future. As robotics merge with AI, mobility and intelligence will accelerate together, making these machines more capable and far harder to dismiss.
