Key Points

  • Meta and Microsoft reaffirmed their AI investment plans despite investor concerns over DeepSeekā€™s rise.

  • Microsoft plans to spend $80 billion on AI data centers, with spending expected to grow next year.

ā˜•News ā€“ Meta Platforms and Microsoft reaffirmed their commitment to AI investments despite investor concerns following the rise of DeepSeek. On Wednesday, both tech giants outlined their AI strategies, with Meta focusing on making AI more personalized and Microsoft predicting ā€œexponentially more demandā€ for AI-driven products.

The companiesā€™ statements came amid heightened scrutiny of AI investments, but neither showed signs of scaling back. Microsoft announced plans to spend $80 billion on AI data centers by June, with spending expected to continue growing, albeit at a slower pace. Meanwhile, Meta emphasized its long-term bet on AI infrastructure.

šŸ„øHow they see it ā€“ Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella acknowledged DeepSeekā€™s innovations but framed them as part of AIā€™s broader evolution rather than a major disruption.

Zuckerberg, following Metaā€™s record-breaking quarterly earnings, noted that while DeepSeek introduced novel approaches, itā€™s too early to determine their long-term impact. He remained confident in Metaā€™s heavy infrastructure investments.

Nadella echoed a similar sentiment, pointing out similarities between DeepSeekā€™s work and early OpenAI models. He also reiterated his belief in Jevons Paradoxā€”that as AI costs drop, adoption will surge. Meanwhile, OpenAI is investigating whether DeepSeek trained its chatbot by querying OpenAIā€™s own models.

Key Points

  • Gemini AI can now create static charts in Sheets, saving time on data visualization.

  • The new feature uses Python code to analyze data, though charts wonā€™t update automatically.

  • Google says that chart accuracy depends on data consistency and clear prompts.

šŸ‘ØšŸ»ā€šŸ’»News - Google has announced new features for its Gemini AI, making it more useful for data analysis in Sheets. In a recent post on the Workspace blog, the tech giant shared that Gemini can now respond to data-related questions by identifying trends or creating static charts that can be easily inserted as images into your spreadsheet.

This update is rolling out across most Workspace plans and to users with a Google One AI Premium subscription. The full rollout is expected by February 20th.

šŸ¤“Here's how it works - Gemini generates these visualizations by creating and running Python code to analyze the data. For simpler requests, it uses regular spreadsheet formulas. The feature aims to save time by automating tasks that would normally involve manually creating charts and visualizations.

However, since these AI-generated charts are static images, they won't automatically update when data changes. Google also cautioned that the accuracy of these visualizations depends on data consistency, proper formatting, and clear prompts.
