🚀Meet AWS’s Nova AI Models
PLUS: AWS’s AI Hallucination Fix
Reading time: 5 minutes
Key Points
AWS has introduced Nova AI models, a new suite for text, image, and video generation.
Nova models offer varying capabilities, with Micro focusing on speed and Premier handling complex tasks for advanced workloads.
Image and video generation tools, Nova Canvas and Nova Reel, allow for creative media with built-in moderation features.
AWS's new hallucinatory error fix, Automated Reasoning checks, verifies AI responses by cross-referencing customer data for accuracy.
Future models include speech-to-speech and "any-to-any" AI tools, expanding input-output possibilities across text, speech, images, and video.
👨🏻💻News - At its annual re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) introduced Nova, a lineup of generative AI models. These include four text-generation models—Micro, Lite, Pro, and Premier—with the first three now available to AWS users and Premier set for release in early 2025.
Additionally, AWS launched Nova Canvas for image creation and Nova Reel for generating short videos.
🤓Here's the lowdown -
Text-generation models: Nova’s text-based models cater to a range of needs. Micro handles text-only tasks with impressive speed. Lite adds support for image and video inputs alongside text, maintaining quick performance. Pro balances speed, cost, and accuracy, while Premier is designed for advanced workloads, including fine-tuning custom models.
All but Micro can interpret text, images, and videos, making them suitable for summarizing data, meetings, and charts. Premier, however, is framed as more of a teaching tool to create tailored models.
In terms of capacity, Micro can manage up to 100,000 words at a time, while Lite and Pro handle around 225,000 words or 30 minutes of footage. By 2025, some models are expected to handle over 2 million tokens, expanding their capabilities further. These models are also accessible through AWS Bedrock, allowing customization for specific needs.
Image & Video Models: Nova Canvas focuses on image editing and generation, offering tools to adjust colors, layouts, and even remove backgrounds. Meanwhile, Nova Reel creates six-second videos based on user prompts or images, with options for dynamic effects like pans or rotations. Both models come with built-in safeguards, such as watermarking and moderation features, to ensure responsible use.
✨What's more? Looking ahead, AWS is working on more AI tools, including a speech-to-speech model expected in Q1 2025. This model aims to transform spoken input with natural and expressive output, incorporating cues like tone and rhythm.
Another project in the works is an “any-to-any” model, designed for mid-2025, which could process various input types—text, speech, images, or video—and produce outputs in any of those formats. AWS envisions this as a step toward the next frontier of AI applications.
🤖See also - AWS also unveiled a feature to address hallucinations in AI responses, called Automated Reasoning checks. This tool cross-references customer-provided data to verify AI outputs for accuracy. It identifies potential errors and offers corrections alongside the flagged inaccuracies. Integrated into AWS Bedrock’s Guardrails tool, this safeguard is positioned as a unique approach to ensuring reliable AI-generated content.
