PLUS: Heart Attack Predictor AI
Reading time: 5 minutes
Key Points
The system is designed to detect abnormalities missed by standard CT scans, allowing doctors to prescribe preventative treatments such as anti-inflammatory drugs.
The technology is especially helpful in analyzing coronary plaques and changes in the fat around inflamed arteries to assess heart artery health and determine a patient's risk of a fatal cardiac event within the next 10 years.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) is currently assessing the technology, with a decision on its NHS adoption expected by the end of the year.
👨🏻⚕️News - An artificial intelligence system that can predict heart attacks up to 10 years in advance might soon be used across Britain.
Prof Charalambos Antoniades, who led the Orfan (Oxford Risk Factors And Non-Invasive Imaging) study, stated that tests in several UK hospitals have shown highly encouraging results. If implemented nationwide, this technology could prevent thousands of early heart attacks and deaths from heart disease, he added.

🫀Why this system is a game-changer for heart health - The system is designed to detect abnormalities missed by standard CT scans, allowing doctors to prescribe preventative treatments such as anti-inflammatory drugs. Traditional CT scans often fail to detect artery damage caused by inflammation. By using AI to enhance CT images, previously hidden damage can now be seen.

🤓What's more? The project's researchers are also developing AI systems to predict stroke risk and identify individuals at risk of conditions like diabetes.
Key Points
Only iPhone 15 Pro models and newer will have access to the update's complete capabilities.
This selective accessibility appears to be aimed at leveraging the advanced A17 Pro chipset found in the latest Pro models.
The new AI features will be initially available in beta for testing, allowing users to opt-in and activate them as desired.
While AI features will be showcased at WWDC, they are not anticipated to be included in the initial release of iOS 18 in September. Instead, they are expected to be gradually rolled out in a subsequent version of iOS 18 in 2025.
📱News - At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today, Apple is set to unveil iOS 18. This update, considered the most substantial since the original iOS, brings a host of new features, many powered by AI.
However, not all iPhones will fully benefit from the new AI features. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, only iPhone 15 Pro models and newer will have access to the update's complete capabilities, leaving older models somewhat limited in their functionality.
🤔Why is that so? Well, this selective accessibility appears to be aimed at leveraging the advanced A17 Pro chipset found in the latest Pro models. In essence, the hardware upgrade enables access to the latest AI-driven features, which older devices may lack compatibility with.
So, although iOS 18 will introduce improvements across the entire iPhone lineup, the complete range of features will be exclusive to the latest Pro models. Apple may also capitalize on this exclusivity by encouraging users of older iPhones to consider upgrading to the upcoming iPhone 16, resulting in an increase in sales for the company.

Key Points
South Korea holds a distinct advantage due to its robust technical infrastructure and well-established data management strategy.
The country is projected to experience a 21.6% annual growth in overall AI spending, with investments in AI infrastructure expected to increase by an average annual rate of 12.8%.
🌏News - A recent study conducted by Intel revealed that South Korea has achieved a higher level of artificial intelligence (AI) maturity compared to the average in the Asia-Pacific region.
The study surveyed eight nations including Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. It predicts a substantial increase in AI investments across the region, with an expected annual growth rate of 28.9% from 2022 to 2027, reaching a total of $90.7 billion by 2027.
🤖What is AI maturity though? AI maturity essentially gauges how ready businesses, governments, and society are to adopt and leverage artificial intelligence effectively.
Based on this evaluation: Indonesia and Malaysia were categorized as being in the initial exploratory stage, labeled as stage 1. India and Taiwan were identified as advancing to the practical application stage, known as stage 2. Australia, Japan, and South Korea were positioned in the phase of AI innovation, classified as stage 3. Singapore, on the other hand, stood out at the leader stage, corresponding to stage 4.
🧐So then what makes South Korea special? South Korea holds a distinct advantage due to its robust technical infrastructure and well-established data management strategy. This enables efficient planning and execution of AI projects across different sectors.
That being so, the country is projected to experience a 21.6% annual growth in overall AI spending, with investments in AI infrastructure expected to increase by an average annual rate of 12.8%.
