China and EU hold talk on Artificial Intelligence and cross-border data flow
๐ฒNews - China and the European Union engaged in discussions covering various crucial topics, with a focus on artificial intelligence and cross-border data flows during talks held in Beijing on Monday.
๐คWhy was this discussion important? The European Commission is concerned that recent changes to Chinese law may make it more difficult for EU companies to access and use their industrial data in China. This is significant because industrial data is becoming increasingly important for businesses of all sizes, and it is essential for developing and deploying AI technologies.
๐ฉโ๐ปWhat did China say? Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing said that China welcomes companies from around the world, including Europe, to participate in its digital economy and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. The two sides agreed to promote an open, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for the development of AI and digital economy.
Well, on a side note, Chinese tech giants are racing to catch up with their US counterparts in the development of AI chatbots. The world's second-largest economy is expected to spend $15 billion (โฌ13.5 billion) on AI projects this year, a nearly 50% increase from two years ago.
India wants to make AI accessible to everyone regardless of their circumstances
๐ฉโ๐ปNews - India, through its permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, has reiterated its vision of making 'AI for All.'
Not only does the nation recognize the central role of AI in the global revolution, but being the world's fastest-growing economy with the largest pool of skilled AI professionals globally, it projects that AI could contribute one trillion dollars to its economy by 2035.
๐จโ๐ซWhatโs the most interesting point? Kamboj explained that India remains committed to responsibly using AI for inclusive growth. This means India wants to use AI to create a more equitable and prosperous world for everyone, not just the wealthy or developed countries.
The country is investing in AI research and development, training people on how to use and develop AI, and also promoting the use of the technology in various sectors of its economy.
๐ญBut how does the country plan to turn its vision into reality?
India is currently working on a National Data Governance Policy to balance data accessibility for innovation with safeguarding user privacy and security. This follows the country's unveiling of the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in 2018 and the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Portal - 'INDIAai' in 2022.
India has also established four Centers of Excellence in AI to support startups, drive innovation, and encourage collaboration.
Generative AI can shake up $600B of Australian economy, report finds
๐ฆNews - According to a new report from consulting firm Deloitte, Generative AI can disrupt a $600 billion cross-section of the Australian economy.
The report found that Generative AI was already being used by many Australian businesses and organizations, and its adoption is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. Some of the industries that are most likely to be disrupted by generative AI include financial services, ICT and media, education, professional services, health, and government services.
๐ฉโ๐What were the key findings of the report?
The study discovered 58% of students reported using AI tools, compared to only 32% of employees.
Despite the growing adoption of generative AI, most employees still have concerns about it. In the past year, the number of employees using generative AI increased from 10% to 35%, but 75% of employees are worried about cybersecurity risks associated with generative AI, and 73% are concerned about AI making errors.
Despite the well-known risks of generative AI, 30% of businesses have not yet taken significant steps to prepare for its adoption.
The report also found that employees who use AI to enhance their workflow could save more than five hours per week, making the four-day workweek a possibility.

๐Prompt engineering tips
Ask for explanation - When you receive a response from the model that seems complex or filled with technical jargon, ask the model to explain its answer in a more straightforward or layman's way. This will help you to understand the model's reasoning and to identify any areas where the model's knowledge is incomplete or inaccurate.
Avoid biased language - To avoid biased responses from the bot be cautious with your phrasing and use neutral and fair language. For example, instead of asking "What is the best way to cook a hamburger for a man?", you could ask "What is the best way to cook a hamburger?"
Ask open-ended questions - Open-ended questions are questions that do not have a simple yes or no answer. They encourage the respondent to provide a more detailed and informative response. In the context of prompt engineering, asking open-ended questions can help you to get more creative and insightful answers from the model.
