xAI’s Grok 3 tested before official release—here’s what we know

🤖News – The next flagship AI model from Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, might be nearing release.  

Over the weekend, several X users, including reverse engineer Alexey Shabanov, reported gaining access to Grok 3, the successor to xAI’s current model, Grok 2, through X’s Grok chatbot app. Before their access was revoked, they managed to test the model on various queries, including logical reasoning and coding-related questions.  

🍨Here's the scoop – Users say Grok 3 successfully tackled riddles and generated HTML and JavaScript code for a roulette wheel casino. However, it wasn’t flawless—Shabanov noted that the code contained errors and missed a few details.  

Shabanov also managed to extract Grok 3’s system prompt, revealing an unusual detail: the model explicitly states that Donald Trump is the 47th president of the U.S. This could indicate a hardcoded fix for Grok’s previous political hallucinations.  

🥸See also – Earlier this month, Musk announced that Grok 3 had completed pre-training, a key step in an AI model’s development, and was expected to launch in January or early February.  

xAI has been training Grok 3 at its massive Memphis data center, which houses around 100,000 GPUs. According to Musk, Grok 3 was trained with ten times more compute than Grok 2, and its dataset includes legal filings to enhance its understanding of court cases.

This follows Skild’s first funding round in July, where it raised $300 million. Three sources confirmed that SoftBank’s founder, Masayoshi Son, has given the green light for this investment, signaling his continued interest in expanding into the AI robotics space.
