OpenAI gives ChatGPT app’s Plus subscribers access to Bing search feature
☕News - OpenAI, the company behind the AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT, has announced a new feature called Browsing. This feature allows ChatGPT app’s Plus subscribers to search Bing for answers to their questions.
🌎How can users access the Browsing feature? To enable Browsing, users can head to the New Features section of the ChatGPT app settings and select "GPT-4" in the model switcher. They can then choose "Browse with Bing" from the drop-down list. Browsing is available on both the iOS and Android ChatGPT apps.
🤔Why is this feature important?
OpenAI says that the Browsing feature is especially helpful for queries about current events and other information that is not included in ChatGPT's original training data.
The Browsing feature can also help users to verify the accuracy of the information that they receive from ChatGPT.
🧐Is there any concern though? Limiting ChatGPT's search capabilities to Bing is not being appreciated by the consumers. Bing is not the most popular search engine in the world. It is also not considered to be as reliable as Google or DuckDuckGo. A Stanford study showed that Bing's top search results contained an "alarming" amount of disinformation.
This means that ChatGPT users are more likely to be exposed to inaccurate and misleading information if they only use Bing.
Grammys update eligibility rules to include AI-assisted music
📻News - The Recording Academy has updated the eligibility criteria for the Grammy Awards to include music created with the help of artificial intelligence.
The new rules state that "only human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration," and "a work that contains no human authorship is not eligible in any Categories."
😟So no inclusion of AI? The rules also include a "wise and shrewdly open-ended exception" that allows for any work in which "the human authorship component of the work submitted must be meaningful and more than de minimis."
This means that AI-assisted music can be eligible for a Grammy, as long as the human creators have made a significant contribution to the work. The authorship must also pertain to the category a song is submitted for. For example, if a song is submitted for "songwriting," the AI cannot have written the song.
😎 What’s more? The Grammys' decision to update its eligibility criteria is a sign that the academy is open to new forms of music creation.
It remains to be seen how the new rules will be interpreted and applied. However, the fact that the Grammys have acknowledged the role of AI in music production is a significant step forward.
US takes aim at China's AI chip industry with new export restrictions
🖨️News - The US government is considering new restrictions on exports of artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. The move, which could be announced as early as July, would target companies like Nvidia and AMD that make high-end chips used in AI applications.
🎃Is it the first time the US is regulating AI chip export? In September, the US government asked Nvidia to stop exporting two of its most advanced AI chips to China. In response, Nvidia developed a new chip called the A800 that is compliant with export control rules. The company also tweaked its flagship H100 chip to comply with regulations.
😓But why the Biden administration is willing to take such a decision?
Most likely, the US government is concerned that China is using AI for military applications. China has been developing AI-powered weapons systems, such as autonomous drones and facial recognition software for surveillance.
The US also wants to protect its own AI industry. The country is home to some of the world's leading AI companies, such as Google, Microsoft, and IBM. The new restrictions would help to protect these companies from Chinese competition.
