Key Points

  • OpenAI will fully remove GPT-4 from ChatGPT on April 30, keeping it available only via API.

  • As GPT-4 exits, OpenAI is preparing new models like GPT-4.1 and o4-mini for future releases.

☕News - OpenAI has announced that GPT-4 will no longer be available in ChatGPT starting April 30. It will be fully replaced by GPT-4o, which is already the default model for most users. GPT-4 will still be accessible through OpenAI’s API, but not within the ChatGPT product itself.

The company says GPT-4o performs better across the board. In side-by-side comparisons, it’s shown stronger results in writing, coding, STEM subjects, and more. OpenAI also noted that GPT-4o has improved in areas like instruction following, problem solving, and holding more natural conversations.

👀Looking back at GPT-4’s run - GPT-4 was first released in March 2023 and quickly became the backbone of ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot. It introduced multimodal abilities, letting users input both text and images, which was a first for a widely used OpenAI model. Training the model reportedly cost over $100 million, making it one of OpenAI’s most expensive undertakings. It was eventually followed by GPT-4 Turbo, which offered a faster and more affordable

And while GPT-4 helped push the boundaries of what AI can do, it has also been caught in the middle of legal battles. Several publishers, including The New York Times, have accused OpenAI of using their content without permission. OpenAI argues that its use of publicly available data is protected under fair use.

⏭️What comes next - Even as GPT-4 winds down in ChatGPT, OpenAI appears to be preparing for what’s next. Reports suggest the company is working on a new set of models under the GPT-4.1 name, as well as a reasoning-focused model called o4-mini.

This week’s topic: AI Scaling

Key Points

  • Canva’s new AI assistant can design layouts, generate images, write copy, and even help create full documents.

  • Canva Code lets users prompt the AI to build mini-apps like calculators or maps, integrated directly into designs.

  • Canva Sheets introduces Magic Insights and Magic Charts, helping teams turn raw data into branded visuals.

🤩News - Canva is rolling out a powerful lineup of AI features designed to boost productivity and creativity.

✨Closing the gap with pro tools - Leading the update is Canva AI, an assistant that can generate images, suggest layouts, write copy, and even pull together complete documents or social media posts based on a few simple prompts.

One of the most surprising additions is Canva Code, a new tool that lets users build mini-apps like interactive maps or custom calculators right within their designs. Just type in what you need, and the assistant makes it happen. Canva built this feature in partnership with Anthropic, leaning into the trend of prompt-based app creation that’s already gaining traction with startups like Cursor and Replit.

Canva’s photo editor is also getting an upgrade. New AI tools allow users to click and edit specific parts of a photo or generate background scenes that actually match the lighting and layout. It’s a clear move to compete more directly with advanced tools like Photoshop and Pixelmator.

🤓What's more? Spreadsheets aren’t left out either. The new Canva Sheets comes with features like Magic Insights, which automatically surfaces key trends from your data, and Magic Charts, which turns numbers into polished, on-brand visuals. With integrations like HubSpot and Google Analytics, it’s built to work well with the tools teams already use.
