👩‍🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom?

Google Cloud introduces Generative AI to its security tools

🏌️‍♀️News - At Google Cloud Next 2023, Google announced several new generative AI enhancements to its security product line.

The company revealed that its Duet AI, the generative AI tool, will be added to Mandiant Threat Intelligence, a security intelligence service that provides organizations with threat intelligence data.

Duet AI will use the data from Mandiant to create summaries of security threats that are easy to understand and actionable.

🏄But how would Duet AI actually help customers?

  • The tool will make it easier for security teams to find information from a massive amount of security data by simply asking questions in plain language.

  • It can also be used to search for patterns in security data, such as unusual traffic patterns or suspicious file activity. This can help security teams to identify potential threats that may have been missed by traditional security tools.

  • The Duet AI would also recommend actions that can be taken to improve security posture, such as implementing security controls or updating software.

Well, the product is currently available in preview and will be released later this year.

British officials warn organizations about including chatbots into their businesses

👲🏼News - The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of UK has warned that organizations should be aware of the potential security risks of integrating artificial intelligence-driven chatbots into their businesses.

As per NCSC, LLMs could be manipulated to perform harmful tasks, such as making unauthorized transactions or leaking sensitive information. They advised organizations that use LLMs to be cautious, just as they would with any new product or code library.

The NCSC's warnings come as businesses are increasingly adopting LLMs for a variety of tasks, such as customer service, marketing, and fraud detection.

👨🏼‍💼But how could a chatbot harm an organization’s security?

  • Chatbots can be programmed to collect data from users and send it to a remote server. For example, a chatbot could be used to collect customer records or financial information.

  • The LLMs can also be used to launch denial-of-service attacks, which can overwhelm a website or server with traffic and make it unavailable to users. For instance, a chatbot could be programmed to send a large number of requests to a website.

UAE releases Jais, the open source Arabic language AI model

👩🏼‍🏫News - UAE welcomed its first Arabic Large language AI model, Jais, which is bilingual in nature. It has been named after the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates.

The AI model was created by a collaboration between Cerebras Systems (a chipmaker), Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and Inception, an AI subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi-based tech conglomerate G42.

Jais is available via an open source license, which means that anyone can use it for free. The team hopes that Jais will help to accelerate innovation in the Arab world and make Arabic language processing more accessible.

👩🏼‍🎤How was it trained? The large language model contains 13 billion parameters and was trained on a massive dataset of Arabic and English text, including computer code. Timothy Baldwin, a professor at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, said that the computer code in the English language data helped train Jais' ability to reason.

Basically, Jais was created using supercomputers from Cerebras Systems.
