Kansas Governor plans to use Artificial Intelligence for her state agencies

🤓News - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is taking a leading role in the adoption of artificial intelligence. She has directed Executive Branch agencies to adopt a statewide policy that guides the responsible use of AI while protecting the state's data and privacy.

The policy applies to all businesses that interact with the State of Kansas, including those that develop software code, write documentation, conduct research, or make business decisions.

🤖What does the policy highlight? Any output from generative AI must be reviewed for accuracy, appropriateness, privacy, and security before being used. It further says that Restricted Use Information (RUI) from the state should not be used when interacting with generative AI.

🤵‍♀️Did Gov. mention any other point? Governor Kelly said that it is important to be proactive in finding ways to use technology that could pose risks to Kansans' data and privacy. She believes that Kansas is setting an example for other states by adopting this policy, which shows that an enterprising and effective government can stay ahead of technological advancements.

Google DeepMind develops AI tool to help with personal problems

👩‍🔧News - Google's DeepMind is developing an AI tool that could become a personal life coach. The tool uses generative AI to perform a variety of tasks. It is also being tested for its ability to answer intimate questions.

👩‍🎓What are its features though? The tool is said to have a feature that generates ideas and provides suggestions or recommendations based on different situations. It can also help users improve their skills, such as running, and provide them with meal and workout plans.

💁Additional ways in which the tool could help:

  • It could provide emotional support to people who are going through difficult times.

  • It can give access to educational resources and help people learn new skills.

  • The tool could connect like-minded people who share their interests and can help them achieve their goals.

  • Further, it can also help users become more aware of their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

As per Dr. Guttmann, a data scientist, AI life coaches are a natural progression of AI use in sensitive areas. He says the importance of responsible development and ensuring that the advice given by AI is safe and sound, should be prioritized.

Demographics can impact development and training of AI models, study finds

🧑🏻‍✈️News - A study conducted by the University of Michigan has found that demographics of the data annotators can have a significant impact on the accuracy and fairness of the AI models.

Data annotators are people who label data with relevant information so that it can be used to train AI models.

👨🏻‍💻What were the interesting findings?

  • One of the most striking findings of the study was that different demographic groups have different perceptions of offensiveness. For example, Black participants were more likely to rate comments as offensive than white participants.

  • This suggests that an AI model trained on data annotated by a majority of white participants might be less accurate at detecting offensive language in comments from Black participants.

  • The study also found that women were more likely to judge messages as less polite than men, while older participants were more likely to assign higher politeness ratings.
