🤖News - Google has launched an experimental AI tool called Learn About, designed to stand apart from typical chatbots like Gemini and ChatGPT.

🕵🏻‍♂️How so? Unlike traditional chatbots, Learn About is powered by the LearnLM model that Google unveiled this spring. It’s designed with educational research in mind, aiming to provide responses that are more visual, interactive, and tailored for learning. Its answers have a structured educational style, with added features that go beyond standard chatbot responses.

👨🏻‍🏫A case in point - When asked, “How big is the universe?” both Learn About and Gemini provided similar information, stating that “the observable universe” is “about 93 billion light-years in diameter.” However, while Gemini included a Wikipedia-sourced diagram and a two-paragraph summary, Learn About enhanced its response with an educational image from Physics Forums. It also featured textbook-style boxes with context such as “why it matters,” and a “Build your vocab” section with word definitions. 

Additionally, a sidebar presented related topics, transforming the experience from a simple answer into an interactive learning journey.

China tests world’s first autonomous robot lifeguard

👨🏻‍🔬News - Chinese scientists have developed the first AI-powered robot lifeguard, designed to operate autonomously without human intervention. 

This groundbreaking innovation is being tested at a riverside site in Luohe city, Henan province, where it will be stationed permanently to monitor water safety.

🛟How does it work? The robot uses AI, big data, and advanced navigation systems to operate 24/7. 

Equipped with 100 optical and thermal imaging cameras, it monitors a specific stretch of water for signs of distress. The footage is processed by an algorithm that can detect drowning incidents. If a swimmer is in trouble, the robot springs into action, deploying a life-saving buoy and a rescue arm to help.
