Key Points
Intel wonāt release Falcon Shores GPU commercially, redirecting resources to Jaguar Shores for a broader AI data center solution.
Jaguar Shores will offer a full-scale rack solution, focusing on system-level development beyond just delivering silicon.
āNews ā Intel has announced it will no longer bring its next-generation GPU, Falcon Shores, to market, marking a significant shift in its strategy for high-performance computing and AI workloads.
This decision comes as the company grapples with disappointing product launches and historic losses, while rivals like AMD and Nvidia continue to gain momentum.
š§What's next for the chipmaker? During Intel's fourth-quarter earnings call, co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus revealed that Falcon Shores will now serve as an internal test chip, rather than a commercial product.
Holthaus acknowledged that Intel has yet to make a meaningful impact in the cloud-based AI data center market, which remains a priority. To address this gap, Intel will shift its focus to Jaguar Shores, a new initiative aimed at developing a system-level solution at rack scale to cater to the AI data center market more broadly.
Holthaus emphasized that the companyās lessons from previous AI chips, like Gaudi 3, highlighted the need for a comprehensive solutionāone that goes beyond just delivering the silicon and includes networking, memory, and other components. With Jaguar Shores, Intel aims to provide that full-scale rack solution that customers have been seeking.
