Reading time: 5 minutes

Key Points

  • DeepSeek’s ‘Janus Pro 7B’ is a vision-based open-source AI model.

  • It is engineered for a variety of visual tasks, including image generation and visual reasoning.

♨️News - DeepSeek, the fast-growing Chinese AI company, has released its latest offering: Janus Pro 7B, an open-source vision-based AI model.

The launch of Janus Pro 7B appears strategically timed to challenge Silicon Valley’s dominance, following the company's recent success with its frontier AI models, which caused a significant drop in U.S. AI stocks.

The company claims the new model outperforms both OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion in a leaderboard ranking for image generation using text prompts.

🤓What's more? Janus Pro 7B is an upgraded version of the Janus model launched last year. According to DeepSeek’s technical report, the new model benefits from improved training processes, better data quality, and a larger model size, resulting in more stable and detailed images. The model now incorporates 72 million high-quality synthetic images alongside real-world data, improving both image consistency and visual appeal.

Designed for versatility, Janus Pro 7B excels in a variety of visual tasks, from creating photorealistic images to performing complex visual reasoning. The research paper that accompanied the launch highlights the model’s impressive performance in image generation, visual question answering, and image captioning.

Key Points

  • Meta’s AI chatbot now remembers details like hobbies and preferences, making conversations more personalized and tailored.

  • The AI also pulls data from your Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram accounts to offer customized recommendations.

  • Meta doesn’t currently offer an opt-out for these personalized interactions.

👨🏻‍💻News - Meta is widely rolling out a feature that allows its AI chatbot to "remember" details like your favorite foods or hobbies, making your chats feel more personal.

According to the company's blog post, this memory feature will only apply to one-on-one conversations, not group chats, and users can delete these memories anytime. Notably, this functionality has already been seen in other chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

🧐So what’s Meta doing to stand out? To take things a step further, Meta is using information from your Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram accounts to make interactions even more tailored. The AI will pull details like your age, gender, and activities to offer customized suggestions. For example, if you ask for fun ideas with your family, Meta’s AI could recommend a local country music show based on your location and past content interactions.

It’s important to note that Meta doesn’t offer an option to opt out of these personalized interactions. Emil Vazquez, a Meta spokesperson, shared that the company believes personalization leads to the best experiences, despite potential privacy concerns from users.
