👩🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom?
China using AI to create fake social media accounts to influence US voters
🥸News - Microsoft researchers have found evidence of a Chinese AI-powered social media campaign that is seeking to influence US voters.
The campaign is using fake social media accounts to spread disinformation and propaganda on a variety of topics, including the 2024 presidential election. The accounts have been posting on social media platforms such as Facebook and X (Formerly Twitter).
🤔Do we have more details? The researchers did not disclose specific examples of the disinformation that was being spread, but they suggested that it was likely intended to sow discord and division among US voters.
The report comes as the US government is increasingly concerned about the threat of foreign interference in its elections.
🤖What did the Chinese government say? A Chinese embassy spokesperson in Washington rejected the accusations of China using AI to create fake social media accounts, calling them "prejudiced and malicious speculation." The spokesperson also said that China advocates for the safe use of AI.
Australia asks Google, Microsoft to remove AI-made child abuse content from search results
👩🔬News - Australia's e-Safety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, announced, on Friday, that search engines like Google and Bing will be required to take action against the availability of AI-generated child sexual abuse material on their platforms.
A new code has been developed in collaboration with industry giants, following a request from the government. Under this code, search engines must ensure that the results do not include any AI-generated child abuse content. Also, AI features within search engines will be prohibited from producing deepfakes.
👩🏭What’s more? Inman further revealed that an earlier set of safety guidelines created by Google and Bing did not cover AI-generated content, thus requiring the need for a revision.
The new rules would require tech companies to not only remove harmful content from their platforms, but also develop tools to prevent such content from being created in the first place.
In fact, just last month, there were reports of children using AI-generated deepfakes to create explicit content of their peers and harass them online.
The eSafety Commission believes it is one of the first frameworks of its kind in the world.
Reliance, Nvidia partner to build Large Language Model for India
🦹♂️News - Reliance Industries, India's largest corporate firm, has partnered with GPU giant Nvidia to develop a large language model (LLM) trained on India's diverse languages.
The companies will also work together to build an AI infrastructure that is significantly more powerful than the fastest supercomputer in India today.
As part of the agreement, Nvidia will provide Jio with AI supercomputer solutions, including the Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and Nvidia DGX Cloud, as well as frameworks for developing advanced AI models. Jio will be responsible for managing the AI cloud infrastructure and providing customer support.
👫Why is this partnership important? The partnership between Reliance Industries and Nvidia is a major boost for India's AI ambitions. India is the world's most populous country, but it is yet to make a significant impact on the global AI landscape.
Most Indian startups and established companies have focused on developing applications using large language models created by other organizations. But none of the organizations have been able to create a successful LLM so far.
