Nvidia set to release China-focused AI chip in Q2 2024, report finds
🕵️♀️News - U.S. chipmaker Nvidia is gearing up to commence mass production in the second quarter of 2024 for its H20 artificial intelligence chip, specifically designed for the Chinese market to adhere to U.S. export regulations. Originally slated for a November 2023 launch, the H20 faced delays, thanks to challenges encountered by server manufacturers in integrating the chip.
Initial production volumes are expected to be limited, with priority given to fulfilling orders from major customers.
🤔Are there more chips for the Chinese market? Alongside the H20, Nvidia is also planning two other chips, namely the L20 and L2, which align with the new regulatory constraints. Despite their development, the chipmaker has not yet announced the sale of any of the three.
The company is counting on these chips to protect its position in the Chinese market because of stricter rules on exporting from the United States. The rules stopped them from sending out products like the fancy A800 and H800 AI chips. To help Chinese customers, they came up with the A800 and H800 as options in November 2022, right after the first set of rules limited the export of high-tech microchips and equipment to China.
South Korean firms challenge the dominance of English language in the use of AI

However, this trend is starting to change, thanks in part to the efforts of South Korean firms. By developing AI systems that are specifically tailored to local needs and cultures, South Korean companies are challenging the status quo and paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive AI landscape.
🤖What’s the biggest concern? One of the biggest concerns about AI has been its lack of diversity. Most AI models are trained on massive datasets of text and code that are primarily in English. This can lead to biases and misunderstandings when the models are used in other languages or cultures.
South Korean firms are addressing this issue by developing AI models that are trained on data rich in Korean language and culture. For example, Naver, a South Korean search engine giant, has developed an AI chatbot that can generate text in Korean as well as English. This chatbot can understand and respond to natural language queries in Korean, making it a valuable tool for Korean users.
🤓What’s more? In addition to focusing on their domestic market, South Korean companies are also looking to expand their reach into other parts of Asia. Companies like LG are developing AI models that are specifically designed for Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian audiences. These models are being trained on data from each of these countries, which will help them to better understand the local languages and cultures. This is a significant step towards making AI more accessible to people who do not speak English.
UK firm builds unique software that would enable any vehicle to be self-driving
👨🏫News - Culham Science Park in Oxfordshire witnessed a glimpse of the future recently as a test car navigated its streets equipped with the latest in self-driving technology. While a driver sat behind the wheel for safety, the true star of the show was the AI brain powering the vehicle.
🚍What’s so special about the technology?
Developed by Oxa, a local technology firm, this software aims to revolutionize transportation by transforming any vehicle into a self-driving marvel. Radar, lidar, and other sensors would feed information to the AI, allowing it to learn as it drives and reacts to surrounding traffic.
This isn't just a futuristic concept; Professor Paul Newman from Oxa assures stating, “it's already carrying passengers in live deployments around the world." He envisions the primary application of this technology in shared services such as buses or airport minibusses rather than private cars.
Oxa's focus is not on manufacturing vehicles or safety equipment but on developing the software and artificial intelligence driving the autonomous capabilities.
🧐How is it different from Tesla? Oxa's approach differs from Tesla's by focusing on providing software and artificial intelligence for autonomous driving rather than manufacturing vehicles. Oxa's software is designed to be adaptable to any vehicle, emphasizing a service-oriented model for shared transportation. In contrast, Tesla offers integrated solutions with both hardware and software, producing electric vehicles equipped with their proprietary Autopilot system, which is primarily intended for private car usage. Oxa's emphasis on AI-driven services positions it uniquely in the evolving landscape of autonomous transportation.

One of the anticipated artificial intelligence innovations in the next ten years is the creation of complex geometric designs that can be 3D printed. This is forecasted to be beneficial not only in the creative field but also in medicine, particularly in creating personalized prosthetics and medical implants.
Deep Panda, a hacking group, gained notoriety for employing AI and machine learning to automate cyberattacks. The group's use of AI extended to crafting convincing and precise phishing emails, increasing the difficulty of identifying these malicious communications and underscoring AI's increasing role in advancing the intricacy of cyber threats.
