UN Chief backs the idea of global AI oversight body
🖨️News - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has supported the idea of creating a global AI watchdog, similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He has announced plans to create a high-level advisory body (by the end of the year) on artificial intelligence. The body will be tasked with regularly reviewing AI governance arrangements and offering recommendations on how they can be aligned with human rights, the rule of law, and the common good.
🎃What’s special? Guterres's proposal comes at a time when there is growing concern about the potential risks of AI. Some experts worry that AI could be used to create autonomous weapons systems that could kill without human intervention. Others fear that AI could be used to create mass surveillance systems that could erode privacy and civil liberties.
Potential drawbacks to having a global AI agency include:
It could be difficult to get all countries to agree on the norms and standards that would be enforced by the watchdog.
Some countries may view a global AI agency as a threat to their sovereignty, as it could interfere with their ability to develop and use AI technologies. This could lead to conflict or tension between countries and could make it difficult to cooperate on AI-related issues.
Chinese companies at the forefront of innovation in AI
📰News - As per a report by global consultancy Accenture, Chinese businesses are currently at a critical point in advancing artificial intelligence. With the rapid development of generative AI and other emerging technologies, the future of business is expected to be a seamless integration of the physical and digital realms.
Nearly 91% of the business executives surveyed in the country believe that AI foundation models will be essential to their company's success in the next 3-5 years.
😎What’s more? The research surveyed 225 Chinese companies in 19 industries, including retail, software, industrial goods and equipment, healthcare, energy, and financial services from December 2022 to January 2023.
80% of Chinese business leaders believe that AI is becoming more powerful and versatile and that it is becoming increasingly useful for businesses.
77% of business leaders said that AI will be able to use different types of data together, which will allow it to do things that it could not do before.
40 percent of all working hours will be supported by language-based AI by 2025. This means that AI will be used to help people with tasks such as writing reports, generating ideas, and communicating with customers.
TikTok launches new AI advertisement script generator
📝Context of the news - TikTok is a popular social media platform with over 1 billion active users. It is a great way to reach a large audience with any marketing message. However, creating TikTok ads can be time-consuming and challenging.
♨️News - To address this issue, TikTok has introduced a new AI-based advertisement script generator. This tool will help users create engaging and effective TikTok ads in minutes. One can simply enter the product or service information, and the generator will create a script.
🤨How does it exactly work?
Advertisers need to enter some basic information, such as the product name, item description, and relevant keywords. They can then choose whether they want a 15-30 second or 31-60 second clip.
Once the information is entered, advertisers can click on "Generate scripts" to create a variety of video scripts with hooks, scenes, calls to action, and visual/audio cues.
TikTok has, however, cautioned digital marketers against relying exclusively on AI-generated scripts due to the potential for inaccuracies.

1957: Frank Rosenblatt invents the perceptron, a neural network that can learn to recognize patterns.
2011: Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, and Yann LeCun were awarded the Turing Award for their work on deep learning. Deep learning is a type of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks to learn from data.
2012: AlexNet, a deep learning algorithm developed by Alex Krizhevsky, Ilya Sutskever, and Geoffrey Hinton, won the ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge. This is considered to be a major breakthrough in deep learning, as it shows that deep learning algorithms can be used to achieve state-of-the-art results in computer vision.
2016: AlphaGo, a deep learning algorithm developed by Google DeepMind, defeated Lee Sedol, a professional Go player, in a five-game match.

Common myth: AI can't be funny
Truth: AI can be funny in many ways, such as in telling jokes, writing funny stories, and creating memes. For example, the AI chatbot Mitsuku was able to win the Loebner Prize for Conversational AI three times, which is a competition that tests the ability of AI chatbots to hold human-like conversations.
