Google introduces Gen AI to its search tool for users in India and Japan
🤓News - Google has announced the launch of its generative AI search feature in India and Japan.
The new feature, called SGE (Search Generative Experience), allows users to ask Google questions in a conversational way, and receive answers in a similar style. SGE also supports videos and images, local info, travel recommendations, summaries, definitions. And provides coding help as well.
👩💻What’s the most interesting point? In Japan, users would be able to use generative AI in their native language. However, in India, SGE would support both English, Hindi, and users will have the option to switch between the two languages using a toggle.
Furthermore, SGE has been designed to support voice input as well, which is quite popular in India, so users can speak their queries instead of typing them.
Google is also adding a new feature to SGE that will make it easier for users to find the original sources of the information that SGE provides.
💂♀️Where to find it? Since SGE is currently an experimental feature, it is only available in the Search Labs section of the Google app and Chrome.
China’s tech company launches ERNIE chatbot to compete with ChatGPT
🧑💻News - Baidu, a Chinese tech company, has released its ERNIE chatbot to the public. It is designed to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT and will not be available outside the country.
Initially, the chatbot was introduced to a small group of people in March. Now, by making the ERNIE available to a wider audience, Baidu will be able to get feedback from more people. This feedback will help the company to improve the chatbot more quickly.
🦹♂️Can ERNIE answer all the questions though? The bot is programmed to avoid answering questions that could be considered controversial or sensitive. It may also avoid answering questions about the Chinese government's policies or actions. It simply says “Let’s change the topic and start again.”
The launch of ERNIE bot is a significant development in the field of AI and a sign of China's growing ambitions in this area. It remains to be seen how the chatbot will perform in the long term, but it is clear that Baidu is serious about competing with the global leaders in AI.
Well, Baidu is also developing a new suite of AI-powered apps that will allow users to experience the four core abilities of generative AI: understanding, generation, reasoning, and memory.
US bans AI chip exports to Middle East from Nvidia and AMD
🧙♂️News - The US government has imposed new export controls on AI chips from Nvidia and AMD to certain Middle Eastern countries. The government has not specified the security risks it sees in these exports, but it has said that the restrictions are necessary to protect national security.
The US government first imposed export restrictions on Nvidia's A100 and H100 chips in China last year.
💁Would it affect the chipmakers’ business? Nvidia and AMD said that the export restrictions would not have a significant impact on their businesses. In fact, Nvidia revealed that it is working with the US government to address the matter.
However, the restrictions are likely to have a significant impact on the global AI market. Nvidia and AMD are two of the leading suppliers of AI chips, and the restrictions could make it more difficult for companies in the Middle East to acquire the technology they need to develop AI applications.
🦸In conclusion - The expansion of the export restrictions is a significant development in the global AI race. It remains to be seen how the restrictions will affect the development and deployment of AI technology in the Middle East and around the world.
👩🏼💻What else is happening?
✨Technical jargon simplified
Parameter - A parameter is a variable that is used to control the behavior of an AI model. It is like a knob or dial that you can turn to adjust the model's performance.
Clustering -Clustering is the process of grouping data points together based on how similar they are. Data points in the same cluster are more similar to each other than they are to data points in other clusters.
Bias - It refers to the tendency of AI systems to produce results that are unfair or inaccurate due to the way they are trained or designed.
For instance, an AI system that is trained on a dataset of images that mostly contain men is more likely to misidentify images of women.
