Google announces new AI features for its Pixel 8 series phones

🔥News - On 4 October, Google announced a slew of new AI features for its upcoming Pixel 8 series phones. The new features are set to roll out to the Pixel 8 phones starting 12 October.

👀What are these new features?

  • Magic Editor: First announced in May, this feature will let users adjust the background and move objects with a simple tap or by circling it. It also suggests improvements based on lighting and provides multiple edit results for users to choose from.

  • Best Take: This next feature combines multiple group photos to create the best group shot. It allows users to choose different people's expressions from various shots and merge them, ensuring that no one is blinking or looking away in the final version.

  • Zoom Enhance: Using generative AI, this feature will enhance photo quality and reduce gaps between pixels when cropping an image.

In addition to these, the Pixel 8 series will also see features such as the Magic Eraser that will let users remove unwanted objects from photos and the Photo Unblur that will help fix blurry images. While the other features will be available on the Pixel 8 as well as the Pro version of the smartphone, the Zoom Enhance feature is expected to be available only on the Pixel 8 Pro.

Britain limits AI summit guest list to 100 invitees, excludes startups

☕News - The co-organizer of Britain's upcoming global artificial intelligence summit, Matt Clifford, has revealed that the guest list will be limited to 100 individuals, consisting of politicians, business leaders, and academics, while several prominent AI startups will be excluded from the event.

Scheduled for 1st and 2nd November, the summit will take place at Bletchley Park, the historic site where British codebreakers deciphered the Enigma code during World War II.

📬Who is invited? While the official guest list hasn't been disclosed, it's expected that the U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and senior executives from major tech companies like Alphabet will be attending the event.

Clifford explained in a post on X that with the objective of the summit being to reach a shared understanding of risks with international stakeholders and establish a forward process for international collaboration, they had to opt for a small, focused summit to achieve substantive outcomes with active participation from all attendees.

Moreover, he noted that culture secretary Michelle Donelan will be organizing more accessible events leading up to the summit.

You may soon be able to interact with ChatGPT without typing, reveals OpenAI CTO

🤓News - Speaking at the Atlantic Festival on Friday, Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO said that while users are using AI tools such as ChatGPT in a multitude of ways today to improve their personal and professional lives, this didn't seem like a possibility a few years ago.

Up until 2018, AI's capabilities were limited to being good at strategy games, but the language models we use today felt far from reach. Murati explained that the rapid pace of technological advancement since then has set the stage for the increased potential for human-AI collaboration.

🔮What does the future hold? Murati stated that while we are currently slaves to the keyboards on our phones, the future holds the promise of more natural interactions without the need for typing. She added that the goal is to enable conversations with AI systems that feel like chatting with a friend or colleague.

Furthermore, AI chatbots are poised to evolve beyond their current capabilities of just responding to our prompts. The objective, as described by Murati, is for these bots to develop independent thinking abilities. She shared that efforts to create a generally intelligent system that can generate innovative ideas and engage in abstract thinking are currently ongoing.

In conclusion, Murati recognized that the evolving AI technology will inevitably reshape the way Americans learn and work, bringing both challenges and prospects.
