🔓ChatGPT's AI Search Engine Unlocked
PLUS: New from Google—Whisk & Veo 2
Reading time: 5 minutes
Key Points
ChatGPT’s AI search engine is now accessible to all users at the free tier.
New mobile updates make ChatGPT’s search experience resemble traditional search engines with location-based results and images.
Paid users can access real-time web updates through Advanced Voice Mode for faster and more interactive searches.
👨🏻💻News - ChatGPT’s AI-powered search engine is rolling out to all users starting today. OpenAI has made the feature accessible at the free tier, though users need to have an account and be logged in to use it.
The announcement was part of OpenAI’s “12 Days of Ship-mas” livestream event, where the company also introduced an optimized version for mobile and the ability to search using Advanced Voice Mode.
🤖What to expect - On mobile, ChatGPT is looking more like a traditional search engine. For example, when searching for restaurants or local attractions, you’ll see a list of results with images, ratings, and business hours. Clicking on a result provides detailed information and directions through an in-app map.
For quicker results, the AI now prioritizes showing website links before generating detailed responses. This is especially helpful for searches like “hotel booking websites.” Paid users with Advanced Voice Mode can also benefit from real-time web updates, making searches even more interactive and up-to-date.
Key Points
Google’s new tool, Whisk, lets users generate images by using other images as prompts.
Whisk allows users to define subjects, scenes, and styles using multiple images or optional text prompts.
👾News - Google has introduced a new AI tool called Whisk, which allows users to generate images by using other images as prompts. Currently, Whisk is available only to users in the US. The tool uses the latest version of Google's Imagen 3 image generation model, which the company unveiled today.
Google says Whisk is built for quick visual exploration rather than creating pixel-perfect images, so it might not always get things just right. If that happens, users can adjust the prompts to fine-tune the results.
✨Here's how it works - Whisk lets users provide images to define the subject, scene, and style of the AI-generated image. Multiple images can be used for each category, or text prompts can be added if needed. For those who don't have images to use, there's an option to click a dice icon and let Google generate some for them.
Additional text is optional but can be used to refine the details of the image. Once Whisk generates the images, users can favorite, download, or make adjustments by editing the text prompts.
🤹🏻♂️See also - Google also introduced Veo 2 today, a new version of its video generation tool. According to Google, Veo 2 understands “the unique language of cinematography” and makes fewer mistakes, like generating extra fingers. It’s available on Google’s VideoFX, and users can join the waitlist for it. Veo 2 will also be added to YouTube Shorts and other Google products next year.
