🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom

AWS invests $100M in AI center to stay ahead of the curve in cloud computing

♨️News - Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, announced on Thursday that it is investing $100 million in a new center to help companies use generative artificial intelligence.

While $100 million may seem like a small investment for a company with Amazon's resources, it is a significant signal that AWS is taking generative AI seriously.

🤓What’s more? Amazon has started hiring new employees to work on generative AI projects. These employees will be responsible for developing and deploying generative AI solutions, as well as providing support to customers.

Amazon, at the same time, is facing challenges in meeting the demand for AI chips. The company has decided to start building its chips to supplement GPUs from Nvidia, the leader in the space.

🤔Has AWS AI attracted any customers yet? Although AWS may not have as many high-profile customers in the generative AI space as Google Cloud or Microsoft, it has managed to secure some notable partnerships, such as with Stability AI and AI21 Labs. This suggests that AWS is a serious player in the generative AI market, and it could potentially overtake its rivals in the future.

ChatGPT causes legal trouble for lawyers who cited fake cases

🤖News - On Thursday, a U.S. judge sanctioned two New York lawyers for submitting a legal brief that cited six fake cases that had been generated by the AI chatbot ChatGPT.

The judge found that the lawyers had acted in bad faith and had made "acts of conscious avoidance and false and misleading statements to the court." He ordered them to pay a $5,000 fine and to notify each judge falsely identified as the author of the bogus case rulings about the sanction.

🎃What do lawyers think of using ChatGPT though?

  • A new report from Thomson Reuters found that a majority of in-house lawyers believe that AI tools like ChatGPT should be used for legal work.

  • 54% of in-house lawyers opine that generative AI technology can help with legal matters. Of those lawyers, 11% are already using or planning to use ChatGPT, while only 5% of private practice lawyers are using or planning to use it.

  • The study also found that more in-house lawyers (95%) are aware of ChatGPT than private practice lawyers (91%).

  • Furthermore, three-quarters of corporate legal professionals expressed some degree of concern about the risks posed by generative AI technology, compared to 62% of private practice lawyers.

ChatGPT security breach raises concerns about AI-powered tools

🖨️News - A new report from Group-IB, a cybersecurity leader based in Singapore, has found that over 100,000 OpenAI ChatGPT credentials have been found on dark web marketplaces.

The report also found that Asia Pacific saw the largest number of ChatGPT accounts stolen by info-stealers, at 40.5%. The Middle East and Europe followed with 24,925 and 16,951 instances, respectively.

👽Which country suffered the most? India, Pakistan, and Brazil were the hardest-hit countries in terms of compromised ChatGPT credentials. India had the most instances, with 12,632. Pakistan was in second place with 9,217, followed by Brazil with 6,531 instances. Bangladesh had the fewest instances, with 2,463.

👨‍💻So how to protect your ChatGPT account from being hacked?

  • Use strong passwords and change them regularly.

  • Enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security

  • Be careful about what links you click on. Hackers often send phishing emails that contain links that, when clicked, will take you to a fake website that looks like the real ChatGPT website.

  • Keep your software up to date.

  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks to access ChatGPT and use a VPN when you access ChatGPT from an unsecured network.

🧐What else is happening?

🤗Technical jargon simplified

  • Reinforcement learning is a type of machine learning where an agent learns to behave in an environment by trial and error. The agent is given a reward for taking actions that lead to desired outcomes and a penalty for taking actions that lead to undesired outcomes.

  • Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are a type of neural network that is specifically designed for image recognition. Have you ever seen a security camera that can automatically detect people or cars? Or a phone app that can identify different objects in a picture? These are all examples of CNNs in action.

  • Big Data is a term used to refer to large datasets that are too large to be processed using traditional methods. Big Data is often used in AI applications, as it can be used to train models on large amounts of data.
