Key Points
ByteDance’s OmniHuman-1 can generate realistic videos of people speaking and moving using just a single photo.
The AI was trained on 18,700+ hours of video data, combining text, audio, and physical pose inputs.
🔥News - ByteDance has introduced OmniHuman-1, an AI system that can turn a single photo into a highly realistic video of a person speaking, gesturing, singing, or even playing an instrument.
According to a research paper published Sunday on arXiv, the tool “significantly outperforms existing methods” in generating natural human movement from minimal input—especially audio. It works with images of any aspect ratio, from portraits to full-body shots, and aims to deliver smooth, lifelike results across different scenarios.
ByteDance has shared sample videos showcasing the AI’s capabilities, including realistic hand and body movements, animated characters, and even historical figures brought back to life. One example features Albert Einstein speaking in front of a blackboard, punctuating his words with expressive hand gestures and subtle facial movements.
🤓For context - OmniHuman-1 was trained on more than 18,700 hours of human video data, using a combination of text, audio, and physical pose inputs.
With this release, ByteDance—and by extension, TikTok—is stepping deeper into the competitive AI-generated video space, where companies are racing to develop the most convincing digital humans.
