Meta introduces a new AI model to help developers create better chatbots
☕News - Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on July 18 that Meta and Microsoft are collaborating to make the next generation of Meta's AI large language model, Llama 2, available for free for academic and commercial research.
Llama 2 is designed to help developers and organizations create generative AI-powered tools and experiences. It will be available on AWS, Azure, and Hugging Face.
🤔What are the key differences between Meta's Llama 2 and Llama?
Token size: Llama 2 has been trained on two trillion tokens, while Llama (its predecessor) was trained on 1.4 trillion tokens. The more tokens a language model is trained on, the better it is at generating text.
Chat capabilities: Llama 2 comes in two flavors, Llama 2 and Llama 2-Chat. The latter is a version that has been fine-tuned for two-way conversations. This means that it can have more natural and engaging conversations with people, unlike Llama.
Availability: Llama 2 has been released as open-source. That is, its source code will be available to the public for anyone to use, modify, and redistribute while Llama’s was not. It was only available to researchers and developers who requested access.
China supports the UN Security Council’s leading role in regulating AI
📰News - At the United Nations Security Council's first meeting on artificial intelligence, China's UN ambassador Zhang Jun said that Beijing supports a central coordinating role for the UN in establishing guiding principles for AI.
He further described AI as a “double-edged sword.” Zhang asserted that AI should be used to improve people's lives and to solve global problems, such as climate change and poverty.
🎃What’s more? The ambassador warned that AI should not become a "runaway horse." This means that AI should be regulated to ensure that it is used for good and that it does not pose a threat to international peace and security.
Britain’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, who chaired the meeting under London’s July presidency of the body, said AI will “fundamentally alter every aspect of human life.”
Russia, on the other hand, raised the question of whether the UN Security Council, which is responsible for maintaining international peace and security, should be discussing artificial intelligence.
British intelligence agency uses AI to stop arms flowing to Russia
📻News - The head of Britain's MI6 intelligence agency, Richard Moore, said Wednesday that his agency is using artificial intelligence to disrupt the flow of weapons to Russia.
Moore stated that MI6 is using AI to identify and track shipments of weapons, target smugglers, and disrupt supply chains. He also revealed that AI was working as a "vital tool" in the fight against Russia.
🤖What were the important points he discussed?
Moore said that MI6 is increasingly focused on tracking the malign use of AI by hostile states. As per him, these states “are using AI in damaging, reckless, and unethical ways.”
According to him, AI will not replace the need for human spies, but it will play an increasingly important role in intelligence gathering.
Moore believes that the "human factor" will remain crucial in an era of rapidly evolving machine learning.

🎲AI-based games
Minecraft - A sandbox game where players can build anything they can imagine. The game uses AI to generate the world and to create the mobs that players encounter. The AI also helps to manage the game world, such as by spawning new resources and removing old ones.
FIFA Series - A sports game series that uses AI to control the other players on the field. The AI will try to play realistically, but will also make mistakes, which can give the player an advantage. The AI also helps to keep the games challenging and exciting, as players never know who will win.
Total War Series - A strategy game series that combines turn-based strategy with real-time battles. The game uses AI to control the other factions, who will try to compete with the player for territory and resources.
