Japan to build a new supercomputer to support generative AI development

🤶🏼News - The Japanese government is planning to build a new supercomputer to help researchers develop generative artificial intelligence.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will be leading the development of the new machine, which is expected to be completed by 2024. It will be approximately 2.5 times more powerful than the current supercomputer.

👨🏼‍⚖️How would developers get access to it? Once completed, the new supercomputer will be made available to domestic companies through a cloud service. The cloud infrastructure will enable businesses to access the supercomputer's powerful computing capabilities remotely.

👩🏼‍🎨What’s more? The Japanese government hopes that the new supercomputer will encourage collaboration among companies and researchers in the development of generative artificial intelligence.

On 19 July, Hideki Murai, a special AI adviser to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, said that Japan would need to rapidly expand its computing power if it wants to become a global leader in AI.

AI will increase the gravity of cyber risks, says India's NSA at BRICS meet

👩🏻‍🔬News - India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Monday warned of growing cyber risks from artificial intelligence.

Doval, who was speaking at the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, said that the gravity of cyber risks will increase exponentially with the advent of disruptive technologies such as AI.

👨🏻‍⚖️Will India regulate AI soon? Well, India has been slower than other countries, such as the United States and European Union to adopt comprehensive AI regulations. It has taken some steps to regulate AI, but its efforts have been very slow.

India's slow progress in adopting AI regulations has been criticized by some experts, who argue that the country is missing an opportunity to shape the development and use of AI in a way that is beneficial for its citizens.

Last month, after meeting OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, PM Narendra Modi said, India welcomes all collaborations that can accelerate the country's digital transformation and empower its citizens.
