Key Points
A lawsuit claims Apple misled consumers by advertising Apple Intelligence features that werenât ready at the iPhone 16 launch.
The complaint highlights a now-pulled ad featuring Bella Ramsey, arguing Apple falsely promoted delayed AI-powered Siri enhancements.
CEO Tim Cook has reassigned AI leadership, removing Siri development from John Giannandreaâs control amid internal struggles.
â¨ď¸News - Apple is facing a federal lawsuit over its promotion of Apple Intelligence, the AI-powered features that were supposed to launch with its latest devices but have now been delayed.
đľď¸ââď¸Hereâs the scoop - The suit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in San Jose, argues that Apple misled consumers by advertising these features for months, even though they werenât ready. According to the complaint, Appleâs marketing created a âclear and reasonable consumer expectationâ that these AI features would be available at launch.
Instead, the lawsuit claims, customers received products with âa significantly limited or entirely absent versionâ of Apple Intelligence. It seeks class action status and financial damages for those who purchased Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones and other devices.
đŤ For context - Apple first announced its AI-powered enhancements last June, promising smarter Siri capabilities and personalized assistance using user data. But as development issues mounted, the company quietly pushed back the rolloutâdespite continuing to advertise these features heavily, including in a September commercial featuring actor Bella Ramsey.
That ad has since been pulled from YouTube, but the lawsuit argues Apple hasnât done enough to address what it calls misleading marketing.
đľâđŤWhatâs more? This legal challenge comes as Apple faces internal turmoil over its AI efforts. A new report suggests CEO Tim Cook has lost confidence in AI chief John Giannandrea and has reassigned Vision Pro creator Mike Rockwell to take over Siri development. Rockwell will now report to software chief Craig Federighi, effectively sidelining Giannandrea. Read more.
đIn conclusion - Apple is already behind in the AI race, and this lawsuit only adds to its challenges. The company marketed Apple Intelligence as a game-changer, but with delays piling up and leadership shake-ups underway, itâs struggling to deliver on that promise.

OpenAIâs new AI models let users control voice accents, pitch, and emotions through text prompts for more customization.
The new transcription models replace Whisper, improving accuracy in chaotic environments and reducing hallucinated words or phrases.
đ¨âđťNews - OpenAI is rolling out three new models designed for voice generation and transcription: gpt-4o-transcribe, gpt-4o-mini-transcribe, and gpt-4o-mini-tts. These models will be available through OpenAIâs API for developers and on OpenAI.fm, a demo site where users can test them out.
The models build upon OpenAIâs GPT-4o, launched in May 2024, but have been fine-tuned to enhance transcription and voice synthesis. OpenAI has not specified when they will be integrated into ChatGPT.
â¨Whatâs new & noteworthy - One standout feature of the gpt-4o-mini-tts model is its ability to adjust accents, pitch, tone, and emotional expression through text prompts. This shift gives users more control over AI-generated voices, potentially addressing concerns about unauthorized voice mimicry, an issue OpenAI faced last year when it removed a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson.
Hereâs a sample of a true crime-style voice:
Meanwhile, gpt-4o-transcribe and gpt-4o-mini-transcribe replace OpenAIâs aging Whisper model. Trained on more diverse, high-quality datasets, they promise improved accuracy in recognizing accents and handling chaotic environments. OpenAI also claims the models are less prone to hallucinations, a major flaw that previously caused Whisper to insert fabricated words and entire phrases into transcripts.
đWhy this matters - OpenAI sees these advancements as part of its broader goal of building âagenticâ AI systems capable of performing tasks independently. While the companyâs definition of AI agents is still evolving, OpenAI Head of Product Olivier Godement described one possible use case as chatbots that can handle customer interactions for businesses.
