✨Apple’s ‘LLM Siri’ in Works

PLUS: YouTube Dream Screen update

Reading time: 5 minutes

Key Points

  • Apple is working on a new "LLM Siri" to offer more natural, conversational interactions powered by AI.

  • The upgraded Siri will handle advanced tasks, and improve third-party app interactions.

☕News - Apple is working on a big update for Siri, aiming to make it more like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. The new version, called “LLM Siri,” will use Apple’s advanced AI models to allow smoother, more natural conversations with the assistant. This update is part of Apple’s plan to bring more AI features to its devices.

🤖What to expect - The updated Siri, set to launch in spring 2026, will completely replace the current version. It will handle more complex tasks, like summarizing and writing text, and work better with third-party apps through an improved App Intents feature. This means Siri will be more versatile and useful for everyday tasks.

Apple’s senior vice president Craig Federighi hinted last month that Siri will still focus on things like sending texts or opening apps, unlike ChatGPT, which is designed for answering questions or creating content. Siri will combine its personal and local features with new AI capabilities, aiming to be the best of both worlds.

While we wait for the update, Apple is teaming up with companies like OpenAI and Anthropic to add AI features to its devices. For example, ChatGPT will become part of Apple Intelligence this December, giving users an early taste of what’s coming.

Key Points

  • YouTube's Dream Screen now generates AI-generated video backgrounds for Shorts, powered by Google DeepMind's Veo model.

  • Users can input text prompts and choose animation styles to generate unique video backgrounds for their Shorts.

  • YouTube plans to allow creators to generate six-second stand-alone video clips through Dream Screen in the future.

▶️News - YouTube has announced that its Dream Screen feature for Shorts now allows users to create AI-generated video backgrounds, expanding beyond its previous image-only backgrounds.

This new functionality is powered by Google DeepMind’s AI video-generation model, Veo, which can generate 1080p video clips in a variety of cinematic styles. The feature is currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

👨🏻‍💻How does it work? To use the new feature, simply open the Shorts camera, tap the “green screen” icon, and select “Dream Screen.” Users can then input text prompts like “candy landscape” or “magical forest with a stream,” choose an animation style, and tap “Create.” The Dream Screen tool will generate multiple video backgrounds to choose from, and users can record their video with the selected backdrop.

🤓What's more? Looking ahead, YouTube plans to let creators generate six-second stand-alone video clips for Shorts using Dream Screen. This update gives Shorts creators a unique edge over TikTok, the leading short-form video platform. While TikTok allows AI-generated image backgrounds, it currently does not offer the ability to create video backgrounds like YouTube’s new feature.
