Key Points

  • Apple’s latest developer beta introduces new AI tools, including Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

  • The upcoming public release of iOS 18.1 will debut some of Apple’s Intelligence features for the first time outside beta testing.

🚀News - Apple has rolled out the latest developer beta versions of its top operating systems on Wednesday, including iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. These updates come just a week ahead of the official release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, though Apple hasn’t specified an exact launch date for those.

Next week’s public release is significant because it marks the first time Apple’s Intelligence features will be available outside of beta. These new tools will include integrated writing assistance, image cleanup, article summaries, and a new typing input for the revamped Siri. Users will be able to try out these AI-enhanced features for the first time without needing to be part of a beta program.

👨🏻‍💻More AI for devs - For developers, the beta program is packed with even more AI goodness. Apple introduced several new features at June’s WWDC, and they’re now available in this latest developer beta. These include tools like Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration.

First-time users of these Apple Intelligence features will need to opt in through Settings, and specifically allow ChatGPT functionality. ChatGPT is now integrated into Siri, enabling it to answer questions that Siri can’t handle on its own. It’s also available as part of Apple’s Writing Tools, where users can generate text in various apps by simply entering a prompt.

Other highlights include Image Playground, which lets users create images from prompts in apps like Messages, Pages, and Keynote, and Image Wand, which can turn rough sketches into polished artwork. For emoji lovers, Genmoji is an exciting new feature that lets users generate custom emojis, based on prompts or even photos of people.

Visual Intelligence, Apple’s version of Google Lens, is another major addition. It allows users to scan QR codes, copy text, detect contact info, and translate languages, with a built-in option to tap into Google and ChatGPT for even more detailed info.
