Anthropic wins key ruling on copyright and AI training

☕News – A U.S. judge has sided with Anthropic in a key AI copyright case, saying that using copyrighted books to train AI models can qualify as fair use. This is the first time a court has clearly backed this argument in the context of generative AI.
👨💻 Fast facts –
The ruling came from Judge William Alsup in the case Bartz v. Anthropic.
He said using copyrighted content to train models may fall under fair use.
It does not mean the case is over, only that fair use is a valid argument.
A full trial is still set to examine if Anthropic used pirated books.
The decision could influence how other AI copyright cases play out.
🤓 OpenTools POV – This could mark a shift in how courts approach AI training and copyright. While not a final answer, it gives companies some breathing room to keep training models while the legal battles continue.

Make Process Documentation Effortless with Scribe
Process docs always fall to the bottom of the list. Too many steps. Too much formatting. Too much time.
Here’s how to skip all that and let AI do the heavy lifting:
Step 1:
Install Scribe and start doing the task - onboarding, reporting, anything repeatable.
It silently captures every click and screenshot while you work. No writing. No formatting.
Step 2:
Let Scribe auto-generate your step-by-step guide—then edit, polish, or share in seconds.
We break it down fully in this week’s issue, along with 2 other ultra-simple AI workflows
Google rolls out offline Gemini model for robots

☕News – Google DeepMind has unveiled an on-device version of its Gemini Robotics model that works without needing the internet. It brings powerful vision, language, and action capabilities to robots, all while running entirely on-device.
👨💻Fast facts –
The model is compact enough to run directly on a robot without cloud support.
It can handle fine motor tasks and follow commands, even without specific training.
It learns new tasks from as few as 50 to 100 demonstrations.
It ships with a developer SDK for testing and fine-tuning.
It is currently limited to trusted testers as Google works on safety controls.
🤓OpenTools POV – Running robotics AI locally is a smart play for environments where internet access is limited or security is key. It also hints at a future where robots become far more flexible and self-sufficient.
