Key Points
Claude 3.7 Sonnet offers quick or in-depth reasoning, with user control over response time.
The model outperforms OpenAI’s benchmarks in coding tasks and simulated user interactions.
♨️News - Anthropic has launched Claude 3.7 Sonnet, an advanced AI model designed to “think” about questions for as long as users need.
✨What's unique here? Claude 3.7 Sonnet is described as the industry’s first “hybrid AI reasoning model.” It stands out for offering both quick, real-time answers and more thoughtful, in-depth responses. Users can choose when to activate its reasoning abilities, allowing the model to “think” for longer if needed.
A feature called the “visible scratch pad” reveals the model’s internal planning process, particularly useful for complex tasks like coding. Developers can also adjust the AI’s “thinking budget” to balance speed, cost, and answer quality.
👨💻Performance breakdown - In real-world tests, Claude 3.7 Sonnet has shown impressive results. It scored 62.3% on SWE-Bench, a coding benchmark, outperforming OpenAI’s o3-mini at 49.3%. On the TAU-Bench, which tests interaction capabilities in simulated retail settings, it achieved 81.2%, ahead of OpenAI’s o1 model at 73.5%. Anthropic also reports a 45% drop in unnecessary refusals compared to the previous version.
🤓Rollout & access - Claude 3.7 Sonnet is now available to all users and developers. However, the reasoning features are exclusive to premium subscribers. Free users will have access to the standard version, which still offers notable improvements over previous models.
⏭️Roadmap forward - Looking ahead, Anthropic plans to develop Claude’s ability to decide how long it should “think” without requiring user input—much like how humans naturally adjust their focus based on the complexity of a question.
🤖What's more? Anthropic is also introducing Claude Code, an agentic coding tool now available as a research preview. Developers can run tasks directly from their terminal, using simple commands for explanations, edits, testing, or even pushing code to GitHub. Access will be limited initially, available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Google has launched a free version of Gemini Code Assist. The tool supports 38 programming languages, offering code generation, auto-completion, and chatbot assistance in popular development environments.
Compared to GitHub Copilot’s free tier, Google offers a more generous limit of 180,000 code completions monthly.
🥳News - Google has introduced a free version of Gemini Code Assist, its AI-powered coding tool, now available globally for individual developers.
🕵️♂️How does it compare? The most direct competitor is GitHub Copilot, which offers a free tier capped at 2,000 code completions and 50 chat messages each month. In comparison, Google’s offering is significantly more generous, allowing up to 180,000 code completions per month.
Powered by the Gemini 2.0 model, this tool can generate full code blocks, assist with auto-completion, and offer coding support through a chatbot interface. It integrates with popular development environments like Visual Studio Code, GitHub, and JetBrains, supporting all programming languages available in the public domain.
📖Curious hobbyist? Here's your guide - Gemini Code Assist allows developers to give instructions using natural language, making it easy to request specific tasks such as creating an HTML form with fields for name, email, and message. It supports 38 languages and can process up to 128,000 input tokens at a time.
While the free tier offers a wide range of capabilities, more advanced features like productivity tracking and Google Cloud integrations remain exclusive to the paid versions.
