OpenAI gives all paying API customers access to GPT-4

📰News - OpenAI has been gradually releasing access to its GPT-4 API since March 2023. However, on Friday, the company announced that the GPT-4 API was now available to all developers who paid for an API subscription.

🤔But what is GPT-4 API in the first place? Well, it is a tool that allows developers to use OpenAI's GPT-4 language model in their own applications and services.

For example, let's say you are a developer who wants to create a new app that allows users to generate creative text content. You could use the GPT-4 API to provide the app with a text prompt, and the API would then generate a creative text response based on the prompt.

🧐So what were the key points OpenAI discussed?

  • OpenAI is planning to allow new developers to use the GPT-4 API by the end of this month. However, they will start by limiting the number of requests that each developer can make per second. This is called a rate limit. The rate limit will start out low and then be raised over time, depending on how much compute capacity OpenAI has available. The reason for the rate limit is to prevent the GPT-4 API from being overloaded.

  • From January 4, 2024, older models such as GPT-3 and its related versions will no longer be accessible. They will be replaced with new models that are expected to be more efficient in terms of computing resources. Developers who are currently using the old models will need to manually upgrade their integrations by January 4 to continue using the newer models.

Alibaba unveils new image generator to compete with OpenAI's DALL-E and Midjourney

📻News - Alibaba Cloud, a Chinese tech giant and a subsidiary of Alibaba, unveiled a new image generator called Tongyi Wanxiang at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.

The image generator will initially be available to enterprise customers in beta form. Tongyi Wanxiang will compete with OpenAI's DALL-E and Midjourney Inc's Midjourney, two US-based rivals that have gained a large following worldwide.

😎What's special about this image generator?

  • Large dataset: Tongyi Wanxiang is trained on a massive dataset of images and text, which allows it to generate more realistic and detailed images than its competitors. The dataset includes over 100 million images and 100 billion words, which gives Tongyi Wanxiang a wide range of reference material to draw from when generating images.

  • Continuous improvement: The generative AI model is still in beta form, which means that Alibaba Cloud is constantly improving it. The company is adding new features and improving the accuracy of the generator on a regular basis. It means that the model will only get better over time.

  • Language proficiency: The image generator is capable of responding to text prompts in Chinese and English. The model lets you control the final image output, such as the layout and colors, while still making sure the images are high quality and creative.

In addition to Tongyi Wanxiang, Alibaba Cloud has also rolled out ModelScopeGPT, an AI tool for developers.

Japanese tech giant, NEC's AI model could help Japan compete in the global AI race

☕Context of the news- Japan has long been considered a laggard in the development of large language models, but a recent announcement by the Japanese tech giant NEC could change that perception.

🗞️News - NEC, a Japanese multinational information technology and electronics corporation, has developed a generative artificial intelligence model with high Japanese language proficiency.

It is based on a large language model and can be used to automatically create sentences and other items in Japanese.

🎃What’s more? NEC plans to start offering AI services based on the model to businesses in Japan this month. The company aims to generate ¥50 billion in sales from the services over the next three years.

The model features lower server load and power consumption than other LLMs. It can also be tailored to meet the specific needs of customers.

🤖Why is this model important for Japan? The development of the NEC model is significant because it addresses a major gap in the Japanese AI market. Most AI products on the market are based on English models, which makes them difficult to use for Japanese speakers.

👽 Technical jargon explained

  • Edge AI: The deployment of AI algorithms and models directly on edge devices, such as smartphones, IoT devices, or edge servers, rather than relying on cloud-based processing. Edge AI enables real-time, low-latency inferencing and reduces reliance on cloud connectivity.

  • Augmented Reality: A technology that overlays digital information or virtual objects onto the real world, blending the physical and virtual environments. AI is used in AR applications for tasks like object recognition, tracking, and contextual understanding.

  • Cognitive Computing: A field that aims to mimic human cognitive abilities using AI techniques. Cognitive computing systems can understand, reason, learn, and interact with humans in a more natural and intuitive way, often utilizing NLP, machine learning, and knowledge representation.
